yyahoo: You have to admit. GOG users sure haven't stopped talking about it. Heck, we might be talking more about the *lack* of releases than we would for actual releases... {shrug}
That said, I've just about reached the point where I do think it's overdue for another release. I was particularly surprised that there wasn't one today.
tfishell: But we, the "regulars", are also the "vocal minority". ;-) It's possible people who learned about LucasArts being on GOG through gaming news sources (like on Reddit) have forgotten and haven't come back to check. I could be wrong but having at least one LucasArts release a week seems to me like it would be more effective than 6 titles every few months, because you'd have people coming to check them/GOG out often and a certain percentage would buy other titles from the catalog. With 6 titles people were hyped TIE Fighter and X-Wing for a while, but since then the interest outside of GOG has seemingly died down.
Having LucasArts releases during the winter sale might be equally smart too since you'd attract people but with the lowered prices they'd be more likely to buy a
variety of titles. (Personally I don't care about the sale, but if it means getting more LA titles, I'm interested.)
Can't really disagree with anything you said. I didn't have a problem with GOG milking the first 6 releases out for a bit, but it's gone on a bit too long.
I will say that I think GOG can get the gaming press and public worked up and active again, depending on what they decide to release next. They will definitely need to release something that isn't otherwise available on Steam. Perhaps a properly working Jedi Knight game (3D acceleration is broken on the Steam releases to my knowledge) or Full Throttle would get the fire stoked again... Curse or Escape of/from Monkey Island might be effective as well. Of course, the big coup would be a GOG Galaxy enabled X-Wing vs Tie Fighter.
As an aside, I find myself rather apathetic about the Winter Sale as well. I fear that (and I know this sounds strange) the Fall Sale was too big not to mention much too close to the Winter Sale. God forbid, I think Steam got it right this year when they put together a much more conservative Fall Sale so they wouldn't overshadow their own upcoming Winter/Holiday Sale.
