real.geizterfahr: When I buy a game on GOG, I buy a license to play the game and GOG's service. GOG's service is access to the installer and patches (and support when you have technical issues with the game - which should be the job of the developer). If they can't give me access to the patches, I'll of course talk to them and not to the game's developer (who probably won't even answer).
Now that you mention it, I'd be really curious to see if - generally speaking, meaning it appears in multiple examples - a given game's license from the publisher reads differently, with regard to support and the like, between the gOg and Steam and wherever else 'versions'. If they read the same but are then giving short shrift to their support of one store versus another... well, that shit ain't right.

tinyE: then can I have my money back? Seriously? If it was a dollar game or something I wouldn't care, but it's a pricey one.

If the fix ever gets here I'll come buy it again, but until then I don't think I should be forced to keep a broken product when, by your own admission, you aren't sure when and even if you are going to be able to fix it.
Reach out to our support, they will be able to help you out.

XeidiDent: Pfff... Try asking GOG's support. My refund request is sitting there for 5 days without a response.
Sorry about the delay, but you should have your answer in your mailbox.

I don't think there's any agreement about technical support. The developers are still the only ones responsible for it. It's probably just goodwill (and an incentive for publishers to sell their game on your site) that stores are doing this. They only can sort out the most common problems related to unmaintained PCs before they tell someone to write the devs about their problem. But I don't think that's anything that anyone wrote down in a contract. It's nice of online stores that they're doing this, but I think it should be the job of the devs (so that they know if there's a problem with certain hardware and driver versions).

And then there's forum support... On Steam you often have one of the devs reading the forums. If a user posts about some technical issues, the dev can step in and help the user. But I don't think this kind of time consuming support is anything they agreed upon with Steam. On GOG I've only seen this guy from Nordic (I think his name is ThomNG) doing this. But you can't blame devs that they don't check GOG's dead sub forums, so this is not a big deal.

Thanks for the reply.

What really annoyed me was the lack of response from the support.

Hopefully GOG will manage to bring the update and I'll gladly re-purchase the game here. Homeworld is one of my favorite franchises and it would be a shame to not have the complete collection here.

Nelko_Lazar: I'd call for a blue to close this thread, but where is one when you need them?
I got an update from the developer (and finally had time to read it) of perception, and this is the exact issue with what's going on, as far as the context provides me. It's not just the blues, but GOG in general. I got hit with a forum glitch that ended with me accidentally spamming the X Series forum, yet, despite telling support about it, I only got an automated response.

My theory, is that the devs have to provide the updates using some sort of poorly documented API and/or have to use some kind of special connection to gog that isn't all that stable (hence why some games have CRCs and some don't and so forth, since different devs have varying degrees of competence with the upload software), and when there's trouble they can't get ahold of support, so eventually they give up. I'll see if this developer can give more details, but it seems that the gag order prevents her from admitting to the gag order (I directly asked about a gag order and she said she couldn't say).
