Spectre: There would never have been the midget xbox controller. You would probably have something like a 3rd party PS3/4 pad with proper triggers and motion sensing built in before the Steam controller arrived.

If they had made the VR sticks work without the headset that would have been even better.

Darvond: So you're saying that I would have to type on a tiny blackberry style controller keyboard, at best?
The xbox controller only had a mini keyboard add on.
What i want to see put to rest is having to go to physical locations to get Mew, Eon Ticket, or to have a decent fighting game match.

Themken: Soem keys on the keyboard: Scroll lock, sys req, that one that looks like a flag.
I like these keys (sysrec is also print screen which i for screenshots, or did you mean the pause/break which can still be useful as a hotkey, as well as pranking coworkers by tapping it and walking away laughing?). What i don't like is the windows key.

Yes, print screen is useful and it seems some professional use for the system request still exists but I personally never had any use for it. Windows/super key is useful sometimes but I have many times tapped it by mistake for annoying results. The menu key is totally useless but thankfully not in a place that I hit it by mistake. Scroll lock is still a stupid key.
Degrading storage media and electronics. Floppy diskettes, CD-ROM discs, and ROM cartridges that cannot be read are damned annoying.

That is, I don't mind the media formats in and of themselves, rather I enjoy using them, I'd just prefer that they kept working.

Menu and scroll lock are very useful if you you have a battery mouse and no backup batteries. Alt Gr (aka right alt) as well as Right Ctrl are pretty useless, though, unless you have tiny hands. Ever wonder, though, what happens when people think X keys are useless? Get an android, download Termux, and try to code in C++. Frankly, it's a royal chore to do much of anything, mis-taps aside.

What physical part of gaming would you like laid to rest?
All consoles. I'm sick of having PC games' gameplay, mechanics, interface and stories dumbed-down for consoles, and their graphics degraded in order so they can run on consoles' crappy hardware. For those reasons and many more, gaming would be much better if consoles did not exist.

Remember the days where games only supported certain hardware? Actually, those days are still around, we just lump it together with the usual non-existent support companies now provide.
I'd like everything to be digital (except the hardware you need to play games, of course :P), mostly for ecological reasons.
Physical copies are nice and all, but they are obsolete, and eliminating them would only mean less pollution.
Besides, these days you find empty boxes with Steam codes, so...

Interesting. I seem not to know how to use the alt gr to accomplish this. Care to elaborate?

The theme seems to be that the keys we think we don't need are the keys we don't know how to use (other than the windows key, but that's the windows key, specifically for windows, because winblows).

True that when not knowing how to (like me and the Sys Req) we have no use for them.

Let me take this moment to remind you that the keyboard layout is different in different countries. I use several languages my keyboard was not really made for so need to get some special letters using combinations.

The Windows/super key is used for a lot of shortcuts in Windows and Linux, and presumably in OSX as well.

But in windows in particular, it's problematic.

Sysreq is the print screen key. Tapping it while in windows or linux puts a screenshot into your keyboard. Some chat programs (like skype) will allow you to immediately control+v this. Often times screenshot programs automatically key this. I think you tie this button with something else to use some sort of built in screenshot method in windows 10. In games, usually f12 or this key is used to make screenshots.

Right now, my method of getting some of those special letters requires changing layouts with alt+`, which can be a pain with too many keyboards. Right now i've settled for just english and japanese, and i google whenever i need a fancy letter.
