justanoldgamer: I learned a new word: Craton

tinyE: Those are good! I always have a few on my salad. :P
That's Crouton

A craton (/ˈkreɪtɒn/, /ˈkrætɒn/, or /ˈkreɪtən/;[1][2][3] from Greek: κράτος kratos "strength") is an old and stable part of the continental lithosphere. Having often survived cycles of merging and rifting of continents, cratons are generally found in the interiors of tectonic plates. They are characteristically composed of ancient crystalline basement rock, which may be covered by younger sedimentary rock. They have a thick crust and deep lithospheric roots that extend as much as several hundred kilometres into the Earth's mantle.

The term craton is used to distinguish the stable portion of the continental crust from regions that are more geologically active and unstable. Cratons can be described as shields, in which the basement rock crops out at the surface, and platforms, in which the basement is overlaid by sediments and sedimentary rock.

The word craton was first proposed by the Austrian geologist Leopold Kober in 1921 as Kratogen, referring to stable continental platforms, and orogen as a term for mountain or orogenic belts. Later authors shortened the former term to kraton and then to craton.

Examples of cratons are the Slave Craton in Canada, the Wyoming Craton in the United States, the Amazonia Craton in South America, the Kaapvaal Craton in South Africa, and the Gawler Craton in South Australia.

Nothing made me happy today! But I was happy yesterday when I got a strange Mite out of my skin that has been in there since 2011 It Hurt Pulling it out though!

My nephew (a small kid that just turned 11) couldn't find his phone while my parents where babysitting there for a few days (my brother's on holiday with friends). My father called my nephew's number to listen if they would hear the phone somewhere and then he heard a woman's voice. It turned out the woman had found the phone lying on the street, took it home, reported it at the lost and found department and took it home. She lived nearby and my mother and father went there with my nephew to pick it up.

My mother told me this story to show that 'in the small' there's good things happening in the world, to offset my worries.
About Wed/Thurs last week a friend of mine who knows I am looking for air compressor accessories found them on sale at Canadian Tire ("There's a lot more than tires at Canadian Tire(TM)", so he told me about the sale starting on Friday or so. I wasn't able to go there on Friday nor over the weekend for various reasons but he didn't want me to miss out so he went there by foot himself on Sunday and picked up what he thought I needed and hand delivered it to me. Not only did he get what I wanted, but he got the exact packages I would have bought myself, without even knowing the specific things I wanted. Tonight I put all the fittings together with teflon tape etc. to get it ready for blowing dust out of the computers with compressed air. Just need to wait for an opportune neighbour friendly time to run the compressor now, and a location where I can do it without worrying about the inevitable dust storm it'll kick up.

Second thing is a few weeks ago a friend upgraded his CPU cooler to liquid cooling and offered the previous cooler to me as an upgrade to the stock cooler I'm using. The new cooler is a fancy pants gamer cooler unit worth $115 or so and it is in mint condition with no dust. The two holdbacks I had to using it was getting the above air compressor accessories and blowing out the dirt, and secondly - finding my syringe of thermal paste for the CPU when I swap the heatsinks. Looked all over the house a few times for my thermal goo and couldn't find it. Tonight I was eating and just spontaneously got up, walked to a desk across the room, moved some things out of the way and not only did I find the thermal paste, but it isn't even my own syringe. I dunno whose it is, but I'm glad I found it. :)

So now sometime before the end of the week I should be able to clean out my computer nice and squeeky clean, but also have a massively upgraded cooling solution that should solve all of my overheating issues finally. Really looking forward to that because for months now I've had to restrict certain programs from being able to use all CPU cores in order to avoid them overheating and freezing the system.

As an added bonus, I should be able to use TurboCore now with the odd game that might benefit from it, and get higher resolution and/or increased use of effects/etc.

This reminds me that I found and returned 3 phones last year, but when my wife lost her phone, no one returned it unfortunately.
Crisis gets deeper and harder into the skin of the people. Today i got advantage of a poor housewife and her daughter. At least I won't spend this Valentine's alone and crying as usual, in a black anniversary as always, while the girls who ruined me faq themselves senseless with random guys like savage-party-animals!

I will take up life in my hands and live forcibly every stinking moment my enemies deprived me of and i will manage just that even under their constant surveillance and bastards tailing me. I am almost omnipotent, my will manifests into reality, shapes and bends it in a shape and fashion close to my wish/intent and vision of it!

Before they trap and corner me to the point of no return, by then, i will have lived EVERYTHING that was stolen from me or destroyed, when i should have lived it back in time. I will grab everything in one fell swoop and in but a short time fragment, i am going to live YEARS worth it.

I wish i could get one good girl and a normal relationship, but alas, they robbed me even of the chance to something so basic and humane as that; that everyone enjoys and few value it as the TREASURE and SCARCITY it really is. My sins, my "crimes", have THEIR signature upon them, at least... And i am free, i will never surrender or bow to any stinking man, with a clean and clear consciousness!

Technicaly it all happened yesterday, ut I'm still in a merry mood today, so here goes ...

Our D&D party was stuck in some middle-eastern tinged lawful evil theocracy (yes, we like to mockup reality). We killed a few naughty people, and were chased all over the city.

We decided to flee into a temple, and our halfling she-sorcerer was going to cover our retreat.

So she turns away from the door, and starts casting her biggest fire spell.

The swarm of pursuivant city-guards and a high priest-warlord enter the temple, and demand the halfling to relinquish her weapons and hand herself over to the authority of the divine steward.

Basicly, the halfling whirled around, skin black as soot because of the fire spell; While screeching "Allat Ackbar" she rolled a crit on the fire spell and eviscerated the whole temple and priest lord and everybody inside.

That was rather hilarious, if you get the references ...
I just found out that the song by <span class="bold">Dream Theater - In the Name of God</span>, contains a laid back section with an interesting drum pattern that starts at 5:50 into the song which turns out to be Mike Portnoy doing morse code on the drums. Decoded, the morse code spells out "eat my ass and balls" LOL!!!! I just found this out from some music website and laughed my ass off. Here is a video that highlights the the specific section of the song along with music notation and morse code breakdown:

In the name of God secret morse code
This happened this weekend, but I'll mention it anyway.

In community band rehersal, we just got our music for the semester, and one of the pieces was for soloist and band. I happen to be the only person in the band playing the solo instrument, so I got the solo part. Even better, the solo part is actually manageable! (It would probably be Class B on the WSMA solo ensemble list, I'm guessing.)
