Not sure about your state laws, but in most of the US it is illegal to bicycle on the sidewalk. This is very rarely enforced, but it has a good basis in that it is more dangerous for the cyclists *and* it is far more dangerous for pedestrians. (Cyclists get hit by things like cars going in/out of driveways, not people driving on the street.)

Typically cyclists are not required to use the bike lane, though there is a strong guideline in most traffic regulations that cyclsts use the right-most lane, which is typically the bicycle lane when it exists. However there is wide lattitude for using other lanes for any "reasonable" purpose. The most typical is an upcoming left turn, though there are many other common reasons such as glass in the bike lane, bike lane in door-zone, delivery trucks / double parking in bike lane etc.

Short version, cyclists in street when no bike lane is typically legally required. Other things may be people being idiots or may be totally sensible, depending on situation.

The fact that many people want to restrict the bathrooms that transgender people use, especially (but not only) when it comes to children in school. It's especially offensive when people consider trans people to be predators by default. Remember, if a situation happens in a bathroom regarding a trans person, the trans person is far more likely to be the victim than the aggressor.
