So I tried playing Atlantis 1 and 2 again and found something I can't exactly figure out. Atlantis 2 wasn't even available for installation through galaxy up until recently but Atlantis 1 was but wasn't exactly working for me. After starting the game the cryo logo appeared for a bit before freezing while the sound was still running and that was it, so I eventually gave up and left it for another day.

Later I found out that Atlantis 2 is available with galaxy and a couple of days ago I decided to give it another shot, both games. Atlantis 1 was doing the same thing, Atlantis 2 wasn't doing anything, the screen just went black for a moment after clicking the play button and then it just shut itself down. I was getting slightly annoyed again, but I decided I should try to see what it does when I don't run it with galaxy.

And what I found out is that the games run perfectly fine without galaxy. Even if I don't mess with compatibilites etc. of the shortcut for the executable or the executable itself. I expect galaxy uses those to run it as well, so what gives? What does galaxy do when running the game? Is this happening with some other games too?

I mean it's a minor thing since I can play the game at least without galaxy, but I'd prefer having my gameplay time meter on and notices in the gog profile. :D

What exactly Galaxy uses to launch the game you should find in the .info file if I'm not mistaken. Can be opened with a text editor of your choice. Keep in mind tho, that Galaxy may also try to add the overlay which you definitely don't get if you run the game standalone. I'd try disabling that first and see if the game runs then.
Try disabling features like the overlay and stuff. GOG Galaxy doesn't do much and you can turn off it's functionalities. I have Risk of Rain, among a few other titles, that wont run with the overlay. Ive had issues at some point with cloud saves too so I disabled that as well.

The only feature that's enabled now is the game timer.

My only qualm with Galaxy is the communication service that stays open when you close the program. I think that one is used to cloud saves and media like game images in tooltips and stuff. I don't know all about it tho.

EDIT: But at least it's not obnoxious like a Skype service (not that I use skype). You can just end it, so I'm not really bothered by it. If it would prevent me from shutting it down tho I would have uninstalled Galaxy XD
