I'm currently playing Queen's Wish. Pretty fun.
So far only played Avernum: Escape From the Pit. One of the best RPG experiences I ever played. And the proof that you can make great CRPGs with simple graphics.
I already have Avernum 2 to play but I suspect it's one of those games which demands plenty of time and focus in order to fully enjoy.

In terms of gameplay pleasure, I would choose Avernum 1: Escape from the Pit and Avernum 3:Ruined World.

In terms of original world and game complexity it would be Geneforge series (at least first three games, because I've played them a lot and finished first two).

Remastered Avernum are definitely more pleasant than original games due to being more accessible, less irritating interface etc. But I still must admit, that Geneforge is more interesting in terms of game choices, decisions and their results etc.
The Generforge series is my favourite, and if I had to put them in order of preference I'd say 5-4-2-1-3. Only 3 I didn't like much, it provides a great background for the next two but it is very limited in the choices you can make, unlike all of the other entires.
I have them all and played them so from my experience i liked the Avernum Remakes Escape from the Pit, Crystal Souls and Ruined World a lot.

Geneforge Saga is excellent too and on third place Avadon are fun too even though i prefer the gameplay of Avernum.

Queen's Wish and Nethergate: Ressurection are decent but i found especially Queen's Wish a little too light on content and Character building, surprisingly few skills to be able to have a different approach and little variety in combat and while the way the XP was handled entirely through quests didn't bother me, it served to make combat feel less important since it didn't really give you anything more than simple gold and i found treasure chests for more useful for gathering equipment than anythng else.

I very much enjoyed the Avernum remakes (1,2,3), also the Avadon series.

Not too keen on the original Avernums (1 - 5) because of the clunky interface and inventory restrictions. Having said that, being a glutton for punishment, I have recently started the Geneforge series and bravely ploughing through 1 to get to the later ones where the interface is more friendly and the graphics are more like the Avernum remakes.

I have heard that a remake of Geneforge is on the way, but hope it doesn't use Queens Wish graphics as I much prefer the Avadon / Avernum look.

Pick them up in a sale, and go for the story not the looks.

I finished QW and, while I enjoyed it, the mechanics are certainly a little stifling.

My favorite has to be Nethergate. For one, I liked the more freeform stats of the older Spiderweb games.
