Those aren't apps, those are platforms.

I was more thinking along the lines of CAT, CRON, or DNF.

Or for those who have wishes beyond Ncurses: Lutris, Krita, or XFE.
I'm old enough to call them programs, if they are, and not apps.
hmmm... spambot?

Smells fishy indeed.

I miss the Windows 3.1 Programme Manager.

First it was programs, then applications (bigger programs), then application "suites" (bundles of applications working together), now apps (tiny functions wrapped in layers of ads). It's a brave new world...

First, it was the big bang. Then programs came right after that. Softwares, apps...

Well, I've got some good news. Most versions of Windows had a legacy version of the Program Manager you can rip out and reinsert, and you know, there's Winfile.

Also old enough to reach that age where you complain for no reason about language evolving.

Anyway... I play Wordscapes or read Twitter on the crapper, and that's about all I use on my phone other than Firefox. On my PC it's pretty much Firefox or a video game, though I sometimes use MusicBee to play MP3s and I have some game related stuff running like RivaTuner.
On Windows I use FlickFetch quite often to download movies for offline viewing, if there are any interesting free movies viewable at https://areena.yle.fi or https://www.ruutu.fi

For instance now there seems to be Cold Pursuit (a 2019 Liam Neeson movie), Slumdog Millionaire and Entrapment (1999) there. I downloaded Capote earlier.
The Year is 2080 A.D.

No one knows or remembers what a "Game", "Program" or "Application" is and everything is now referred to by the nebulous word "App".

Youtube, WhatsApp and Instagram and scanner to pdf software, it's very useful app these days. With its help i can scan any docs in a few minutes and images in PDF and JPEG formats. I use it for scanning IDs and business cards and other documents.
