New features, local currency option, new payment methods, store credit, and an updated look for GOG.com!

For almost six years now we strive to bring you not only the best in DRM-Free gaming, but also to give you the greatest experience possible. To that end we're always looking for ways to improve our site and service. Today, we're rolling out a vastly updated version of our store with an improved interface, sleek new look, and lots of handy new features. Let's take a quick tour, shall we?

Video: Welcome to the fresher, better GOG.com!

First of all we are giving you more DRM-free content: movies! We are starting with 20 documentaries about internet and gaming culture but we aim high! You can find more on this in the appropriate newspost, so let's focus on the other features we're rolling out.

We wanted to give you more choice as to how you pay for things on GOG.com. Now it's up to you if you want to pay in US Dollars, or in the currency primarily used in your country, whether it's the Euro, Pounds Sterling, Australian Dollars, or Russian Roubles. That's four new currencies supported by GOG.com for your convenience. Still - the choice is yours, so if you want to stick to US dollars, just switch to it - you find this option at the bottom of each page. To make buying things at GOG.com an even more flexible process, we're introducing some new payment methods: Sofort, Giropay, Webmoney, and Yandex.

All this also means that users for whom the local currency pricing has been enabled will have an option to select one of two different prices for each game in our catalog. Of course, we stand by the simple truth that $1 does not equal 1€, so a game with a $5.99 price tag will cost 4.49 Euro, 3.69 British Pounds, 6.49 Australian Dollars, and 219 Roubles respectively. $9.99 translates to 7.49 Euro, 5.99 Pounds Sterling, 10.89 Australian Dollars, and 359 Roubles. In a perfect world we would apply the same method of pricing to all of the games we offer. However, things are a little bit more complicated, and there are some games in our catalog that follow a different region-based pricing scheme. However, we wouldn't be GOG.com if we didn't find a way to make right by the users who end up paying relatively more for such titles. Here's where the Fair Price Package comes in!

The Fair Price Package applies to all of the titles which we couldn't include in our standard pricing scheme. If you end up paying more for a game than its standard US Dollar price, we'll refund you the difference out of our own pocket. The refunded value will be added to your account in Store Credit in the currency of your purchase. That's right, no more gift codes, you'll be getting Store Credit that you can use to purchase anything on GOG.com or partially pay for an item that's more expensive. More choice, ease of use, and less limitations!

Finally, the GOG.com store has gotten itself a substantial visual revamp. We went for a fresh, mobile-friendly design that should make it even easier to find the games you want, notice the hot promos, and see what's new. The main page, catalog view, product pages, and checkout have been updated and also lay the groundwork for even more overhaul, coming within the next few months together with many of the GOG Galaxy features. We hope you like it!

PS. Unfortunately, we need to drop some titles from our classic catalog. In such cases, we always do our best to give you an advance warning and a last chance to purchase such games - preferably with a considerable discount. Check this news post to find out which titles are being removed from our catalog, when will it happen, and what parting discounts for them do we currently offer.

My only problem is that the new layout doesn't make clear what I've already purchased. That's sort of annoying. Other than that I love it.

tinyE: THIS IS BULLSHIT! I'M GOING TO STEAM!

Far out.
I was almost able to type that without laughing. XD
Ooooooooh... I like your new "fresher, better" uber-uncolored avatar tinyE. Who needs colors if there's GREY, right? ;)
Maybe there's a new survey which says colors can cause eye cancer? Who knows? I slowly believe gog is just worried about our (eye-)healthiness...

Is there a setting to automatically show compete descriptions and included goodies for store items?

Every game I go to has a "Read more" thing I have to click on the read more than 4 short lines. It's silly too because the reviews are each twice as long (8 lines) before they are truncated and they are just opinions.

Isn't there a way for the site can detect that I am not a telephone and show me a proper webpage instead of one for a miniature screen? I have to page down to even read the description. I would have thought 1200 pixels is enough room to show some pictures and at least start the description.
Oh well, it was fun while it lasted. What a joke. I guess it was just a matter of time until their pro-consumer image would clash with the face of the publishers. DRM next.
Your new "mobile-friendly" design loads something like 4-5 times slower than the old site on my iPhone, and even then the top bar doesn't display correctly.

And whoever thought this grayvasion was a good idea should be forced to sit in a pastel-colored room until they repent of their shameful monochromatic ways.

Completely agree. Consider it a fail using the site from my desktop PC. You know the one I use to play the games I've bought here? Also, hate the "color" scheme & giant top-nav buttons.

Keep the gray for the movies section?

Also, the logout button redirects to the front page, but doesn't log me out.

Same request.

gamefood: THANKS to the people who are like you... Congrats that you have not to zoom in any more. Yeah.
A question: Do you - or better - can you also play the games on your shitty phone? (Hint: That's a rhetorical question, so please don't answer.)
I don't really see the issue. I love the new design, and it still works fine on a desktop or laptop.

And to your semi-rhetorical question, I actually choose not to play these sorts of games on my phone but I want to be able to BUY those games for when I get back to my computer (like I have the potential to with Steam and I rarely buy Steam games as it is), because sometimes my iPhone is the only link I have to the Internet, and that before now made it very difficult to browse the GOG store for what I would like, and this is especially heinous during those Insomnia sales, and I have actually lost out on certain free games that I legitimately WANTED because a) I wasn't anywhere near either of my computers at that point, and b) mobile phones with non-optimized web browsers do not work very well for those types of sales.

That answer your question a little bit? I know that mobile optimized interfaces aren't ideal for people who are on their computers all the time, but for those like me that slide in between computers and mobile phones, this is a godsend.
Wishlisting is weird now.
Unless you like going to the supermarket, throwing a bunch of cereal in your cart, tipping the cart over, and then writing down a list of the food you just upturned, then leaving. Typical Saturday in Beverly Hills.
I just think there's a little too much Javascript or something on this site now ^^

The search bar is still as wonderful as it once was when you click on the search button on the top a couple of letters and the game your after comes up nothings changed in that regard.
No it's not. First opens a new page and second it takes too much time to load site and bar and getting results.
Nothing has changed? Be careful, too much grey can cause eye cancer :P
Love the new layout. Looks much more streamlined, and it's even easier now to find what you need. Looking forward to GOG Galaxy!
Why are prices no longer listed next to game entries in the Wishlist?

Also, why all the grey? I fit the average gamer type, mid-30's and I hate to admit it, but I miss the contrast of the yellow stars next to games. Just a bit hard to read when everything besides the thumbnails is a slightly different shade of grey.
But, the navigation routes make sense, and it's nice to be able to sort games by grid or list.

... I just noticed there are no more box shots for games in their product pages.

GOG, why. :(

Also, I can't stand pages that force me to click next after next after next just to be able to browse, without letting me skip pages via URL links. That kind of navigation is stupid.

This new "look" really sucks. At least give us the option for "classic look". I cannot find what I want and this new look is too busy and unintuitive. as one other said "it was fun while it lasted"….I just took my last look at GOG…I won't be back unless the old site is offered as an option.

Just like all the other sites do…..eff it up b/c some stupid intern thinks we want to see something "new and hip"…

Goodbye GOG..
