New features, local currency option, new payment methods, store credit, and an updated look for GOG.com!

For almost six years now we strive to bring you not only the best in DRM-Free gaming, but also to give you the greatest experience possible. To that end we're always looking for ways to improve our site and service. Today, we're rolling out a vastly updated version of our store with an improved interface, sleek new look, and lots of handy new features. Let's take a quick tour, shall we?

Video: Welcome to the fresher, better GOG.com!

First of all we are giving you more DRM-free content: movies! We are starting with 20 documentaries about internet and gaming culture but we aim high! You can find more on this in the appropriate newspost, so let's focus on the other features we're rolling out.

We wanted to give you more choice as to how you pay for things on GOG.com. Now it's up to you if you want to pay in US Dollars, or in the currency primarily used in your country, whether it's the Euro, Pounds Sterling, Australian Dollars, or Russian Roubles. That's four new currencies supported by GOG.com for your convenience. Still - the choice is yours, so if you want to stick to US dollars, just switch to it - you find this option at the bottom of each page. To make buying things at GOG.com an even more flexible process, we're introducing some new payment methods: Sofort, Giropay, Webmoney, and Yandex.

All this also means that users for whom the local currency pricing has been enabled will have an option to select one of two different prices for each game in our catalog. Of course, we stand by the simple truth that $1 does not equal 1€, so a game with a $5.99 price tag will cost 4.49 Euro, 3.69 British Pounds, 6.49 Australian Dollars, and 219 Roubles respectively. $9.99 translates to 7.49 Euro, 5.99 Pounds Sterling, 10.89 Australian Dollars, and 359 Roubles. In a perfect world we would apply the same method of pricing to all of the games we offer. However, things are a little bit more complicated, and there are some games in our catalog that follow a different region-based pricing scheme. However, we wouldn't be GOG.com if we didn't find a way to make right by the users who end up paying relatively more for such titles. Here's where the Fair Price Package comes in!

The Fair Price Package applies to all of the titles which we couldn't include in our standard pricing scheme. If you end up paying more for a game than its standard US Dollar price, we'll refund you the difference out of our own pocket. The refunded value will be added to your account in Store Credit in the currency of your purchase. That's right, no more gift codes, you'll be getting Store Credit that you can use to purchase anything on GOG.com or partially pay for an item that's more expensive. More choice, ease of use, and less limitations!

Finally, the GOG.com store has gotten itself a substantial visual revamp. We went for a fresh, mobile-friendly design that should make it even easier to find the games you want, notice the hot promos, and see what's new. The main page, catalog view, product pages, and checkout have been updated and also lay the groundwork for even more overhaul, coming within the next few months together with many of the GOG Galaxy features. We hope you like it!

PS. Unfortunately, we need to drop some titles from our classic catalog. In such cases, we always do our best to give you an advance warning and a last chance to purchase such games - preferably with a considerable discount. Check this news post to find out which titles are being removed from our catalog, when will it happen, and what parting discounts for them do we currently offer.

I am the kind of user who likes things to be minimalistic, so if a website's design requires more clicks or scrolling to achive same result as with older version or elsewhere, I am not a fan of it. GOG does require more clicking and scrolling. It is still new, so I haven't formed any solid opinion on design yet.

Dislike:

- Hard to differ between games I own and these I don't
- Unable to add game to wishlist during browsing (Possibly already has been that way but I remember I was able to do so at some point)
- Search option requires more clicks compared to the old version where I could search instantly
- Mixing bestselling/new movies and games on same page is confusing. I keep thinking that The King of Arcades is an arcade game.
- Too bright colours used in the template; I was used to dark one

Like:
- You try to improve (though forum that needs it a lot was left untouched)
- DRM-free movies!

Don't know what to think of:
- Introduction of more currencies - It might be a prelude to forced regional pricing or it is a step to be more customer-friendly. It is hard to tell. It's definitely... an interesting change. I prefer to stay positive.

And I miss TET's voice :'(

PS. Oh and like others said - I dislike to have less control over my account settings.

Eeh, not really a fan of the changes. Probably the most noticeable thing for me is, I don't like the top bar following me as I scroll down. I've never really been a fan of that, and this one is huge.

Second, I'm disappointed that we're losing so many games. How long will it take before we've made up for them?

Third, the move into movies is interesting, but none of them at all seem interesting. I hope we get a good stream of many different genres, but I honestly don't know what I'm supposed to expect.

Fourth, I already miss the old logo. I liked the green.

Finally, I'm not certain how much I like the changes to the front page. I don't dislike it though, it just seems a little... I dunno. Bland maybe? Maybe I just need to get used to it.
I actually like that the new site runs on my mobile, couldnt even log in using most mobile browser. Only Chrome managed to log in but the old site ran like shite.

About the new designs: well.. we'll see, i usually detest any change but ive learned that in most cases its just a case of getting used to it (combined with fixes/patches).

I did loose some unredeemed gifts: Magrunner, Omerta en Torchlight 1. Whats that about?
why everytime (and i mean really everytime) when i read about new better, enhanced and other superlatives look of something, i don't know if will be better to start cry or shut down pc and pray for it is just the joke?
no really, i used to old look and i don't like new one. it is probable i get used to new one either but well ...
high rated
The new web-design is ugly, but I'd like to especially single out your new, industrial-grey logo as being absolutely hideous.
I don't mind the new design of the site that much, but the old game page design was far and away superior as it showed all the information someone needed to know in a condensed, clear cut fashion that was easy to read on computer and mobile devices. My tablet actually loads the site far slower and requires much more time to find information than the old one did, so there's that too.

Honestly, I think you'd be better served reaching a middle ground in design between the old and new design, because as it stands now in this state, the site is not quite as functional and awesome as the old one was.

Glad to see that the forum design hasn't changed though - and honestly I REALLY hope it stays as it is since I really like the way it works right now and on a wide variety of devices :)

EDIT: There really needs to be a wishlist for games and movies - the wishlist will get very messy if there isn't a clear distinction between the two.

Well I have to add something unfortunately. Some games did indeed get regional pricing today. Sorry. :(

By the way, thanks GOG for enabling HTML5 video streaming for the videos in your catalog!! No annoying Flash there.

That particular change was added long ago, though Barefoot Essentials fixed it and probably will again (give Barefoot_Monkey time to update the thing).

I share your view.
Guess it has to do with the "mobile-friendly design". I dislike mobile looks in general.

No I don't. Where is it? I cannot change it in the standard "settings", not in the settings hidden in the boards and not anywhere else.

Great, all my unredeemed gift codes disappeared, I can't get useful information out of this abysmal web design as fast as before and the main page is so overloaded with stuff in a big font, that I can't look at it for more than 2 seconds.
THIS IS BULLSHIT! I'M GOING TO STEAM!

Far out.
I was almost able to type that without laughing. XD

I like what I'm seeing right now (though I cannot seem to find the option to change currencies, but that might be because I am in a country where it is not possible...), but I just wanted to say:

Update the damn forums already, please!! :D
I think I like the new design. But I dislike two things in it:
- the new previem system for pictures. I would rather not have to open a new tab for each picture I want to see in a larger format; the old system was better
- the top of the game card url (title and background picture) seems pretty empty, especially when the game title is short (ex: gothic)
