New features, local currency option, new payment methods, store credit, and an updated look for GOG.com!

For almost six years now we strive to bring you not only the best in DRM-Free gaming, but also to give you the greatest experience possible. To that end we're always looking for ways to improve our site and service. Today, we're rolling out a vastly updated version of our store with an improved interface, sleek new look, and lots of handy new features. Let's take a quick tour, shall we?

Video: Welcome to the fresher, better GOG.com!

First of all we are giving you more DRM-free content: movies! We are starting with 20 documentaries about internet and gaming culture but we aim high! You can find more on this in the appropriate newspost, so let's focus on the other features we're rolling out.

We wanted to give you more choice as to how you pay for things on GOG.com. Now it's up to you if you want to pay in US Dollars, or in the currency primarily used in your country, whether it's the Euro, Pounds Sterling, Australian Dollars, or Russian Roubles. That's four new currencies supported by GOG.com for your convenience. Still - the choice is yours, so if you want to stick to US dollars, just switch to it - you find this option at the bottom of each page. To make buying things at GOG.com an even more flexible process, we're introducing some new payment methods: Sofort, Giropay, Webmoney, and Yandex.

All this also means that users for whom the local currency pricing has been enabled will have an option to select one of two different prices for each game in our catalog. Of course, we stand by the simple truth that $1 does not equal 1€, so a game with a $5.99 price tag will cost 4.49 Euro, 3.69 British Pounds, 6.49 Australian Dollars, and 219 Roubles respectively. $9.99 translates to 7.49 Euro, 5.99 Pounds Sterling, 10.89 Australian Dollars, and 359 Roubles. In a perfect world we would apply the same method of pricing to all of the games we offer. However, things are a little bit more complicated, and there are some games in our catalog that follow a different region-based pricing scheme. However, we wouldn't be GOG.com if we didn't find a way to make right by the users who end up paying relatively more for such titles. Here's where the Fair Price Package comes in!

The Fair Price Package applies to all of the titles which we couldn't include in our standard pricing scheme. If you end up paying more for a game than its standard US Dollar price, we'll refund you the difference out of our own pocket. The refunded value will be added to your account in Store Credit in the currency of your purchase. That's right, no more gift codes, you'll be getting Store Credit that you can use to purchase anything on GOG.com or partially pay for an item that's more expensive. More choice, ease of use, and less limitations!

Finally, the GOG.com store has gotten itself a substantial visual revamp. We went for a fresh, mobile-friendly design that should make it even easier to find the games you want, notice the hot promos, and see what's new. The main page, catalog view, product pages, and checkout have been updated and also lay the groundwork for even more overhaul, coming within the next few months together with many of the GOG Galaxy features. We hope you like it!

PS. Unfortunately, we need to drop some titles from our classic catalog. In such cases, we always do our best to give you an advance warning and a last chance to purchase such games - preferably with a considerable discount. Check this news post to find out which titles are being removed from our catalog, when will it happen, and what parting discounts for them do we currently offer.

What am I missing here? I see everything in US dollars, and the ONLY option at the bottom right of each game page is... US Dollars! Where is this elusive switch?

1. New colour scheme sucks, sorry but I was used to the UI and now you ruined it

2. Games in wishlist NO LONGER list their prices OR if they are on sale rendering my list useless until this is fixed as I only buy games when on sale and knew when they were on sale thanks to that orange marker

Conclusion - Sorry GOG but I dont see improvements, I see side-line excuses for messing with an interface that was fine AS IT WAS!!!

IAmSinistar: The Support page appears to be having a literal spaz attack at the moment.

BillyMaysFan59: O__________o*

doesn't seem to be doing that on me, for some reason.
Probably my browser is glitching. I have WAY too many tabs open at the moment. :)

truhlik: This seems to me like 'we do business for us not for you" design. Pity.
^ This. Did they even think about what the GOG user likes?
OK, I don't care for the new ugly logo, but the new Search is horrible.

And where the hell is my Torchlight gift code?

Treasure: I'm afraid I'll have to add my voice to those that say that the website now looks, I dunno, the word isn't exactly hideous, but rather...Oh, scratch my attempt to be polite, it's ugly !
Another issue for me: regional pricing. What the...??? I look at the front page and see all prices in euros! When the "Good news!" announcement came out in February I thought that whenever regional pricing came, we would at least have an option to choose in what currency we would pay. And, for personal reasons I won't explain here, I prefer dollars ! And I get shoved the goddamn euro right in my face! Even with the "Last Chance" promo, when I go to checkout I see prices there in euros(even though the promo lists the prices in dollars) ! The wishlist also has a problem-when I try to put promo games in my wishlist, I get errors, and I finally managed to put them in my wishlist only on checkout! Also...movies? Seriously? Not that I have anything against them but, I don't know....Plus, they're in euros too!

At least the forum remained unchanged... for the moment. Who knows what they'll do to it...

P.S. Sorry if I sound aggressive but I'm pretty pissed off. I don't even know whether I should buy anything from the promo. And I wish GOG will give the option to people to actually choose the currency they want to pay in at checkout. Anyways, that's it I guess...
P.S.2 Just checked some other posts-GOG please also fix the gifts and wishlist tabs.

JudasIscariot: As for choosing the currency, you can choose on each game card or even on the main page. There is a currency selector near the bottom of the page, to the right :)
Speaking of currency, bring back all the games your removing and price them at whatever currency you need to. I'll buy every last one, and then some.

I don't care what titles you have in the pipe line right now. If you keep losing notable titles new and old, GOG won't grow but it will stagnate.

I'd rather pay full price than no price.

The new site looks awesome!

Yeah... when you lose contract with one of your biggest partners (Nordic), you put a new makeup, introduce some garbage indie movies and you are all set.

If you ever felt like you need to make some backup copies of your GOG games, folks, do it today.

RazorRaven: Also kinda miss the Year and Description of the title being on the top of each page, had to search for it amongst all the 'white space'.
+1 from me. If a game is part of a wider series, you need to scroll way down to see what the game actually is and on which computers it will run. This should be right next to the game description/screenshots, as it is the info that most people will look at first, ie. a quick summary of what the game is.

Furthermore, do we really need to expand every piece of text? Make it expandable for the mobile version of the site, but give us ALL the info when browsing from a desktop.

I love you GOG

but whomever told you that grey bland logo was great, lied to you.

Yeah I'm noticing that my gift codes are gone too and the Wishlist does not have the prices listed anymore. What happened?

I feel like I'm playing Wizball again, only there I had the chance to return color to the world.

What was wrong with your old logo GOG? The new site design looks... corporate. Like "This is the very modern and professional web page of GOG.com Inc. Please wipe your feet before entering, pass through the metal detector and stand by for security to hand you your visitor tracking bracelet."
My thoughts so far about the site changes:
- new layout: not great (super grey and tiles), but not as bad as some say (maybe show us a preview next time?).
- new features: nice, but very little improvements (better search, subforums, polls, friendlist?? Etc..).
- currency selection: fine, but I'll stick to USD for now.
- store points: seems good overall.
- games removed: noo, whyy!? Luckly I already own the best of them! Anyway, thanks for the notice!
- movies: I'm always skeptical, but this worked nice for games, so I'm hoping for movies and other media too ( My post about it).
