New features, local currency option, new payment methods, store credit, and an updated look for GOG.com!

For almost six years now we strive to bring you not only the best in DRM-Free gaming, but also to give you the greatest experience possible. To that end we're always looking for ways to improve our site and service. Today, we're rolling out a vastly updated version of our store with an improved interface, sleek new look, and lots of handy new features. Let's take a quick tour, shall we?

Video: Welcome to the fresher, better GOG.com!

First of all we are giving you more DRM-free content: movies! We are starting with 20 documentaries about internet and gaming culture but we aim high! You can find more on this in the appropriate newspost, so let's focus on the other features we're rolling out.

We wanted to give you more choice as to how you pay for things on GOG.com. Now it's up to you if you want to pay in US Dollars, or in the currency primarily used in your country, whether it's the Euro, Pounds Sterling, Australian Dollars, or Russian Roubles. That's four new currencies supported by GOG.com for your convenience. Still - the choice is yours, so if you want to stick to US dollars, just switch to it - you find this option at the bottom of each page. To make buying things at GOG.com an even more flexible process, we're introducing some new payment methods: Sofort, Giropay, Webmoney, and Yandex.

All this also means that users for whom the local currency pricing has been enabled will have an option to select one of two different prices for each game in our catalog. Of course, we stand by the simple truth that $1 does not equal 1€, so a game with a $5.99 price tag will cost 4.49 Euro, 3.69 British Pounds, 6.49 Australian Dollars, and 219 Roubles respectively. $9.99 translates to 7.49 Euro, 5.99 Pounds Sterling, 10.89 Australian Dollars, and 359 Roubles. In a perfect world we would apply the same method of pricing to all of the games we offer. However, things are a little bit more complicated, and there are some games in our catalog that follow a different region-based pricing scheme. However, we wouldn't be GOG.com if we didn't find a way to make right by the users who end up paying relatively more for such titles. Here's where the Fair Price Package comes in!

The Fair Price Package applies to all of the titles which we couldn't include in our standard pricing scheme. If you end up paying more for a game than its standard US Dollar price, we'll refund you the difference out of our own pocket. The refunded value will be added to your account in Store Credit in the currency of your purchase. That's right, no more gift codes, you'll be getting Store Credit that you can use to purchase anything on GOG.com or partially pay for an item that's more expensive. More choice, ease of use, and less limitations!

Finally, the GOG.com store has gotten itself a substantial visual revamp. We went for a fresh, mobile-friendly design that should make it even easier to find the games you want, notice the hot promos, and see what's new. The main page, catalog view, product pages, and checkout have been updated and also lay the groundwork for even more overhaul, coming within the next few months together with many of the GOG Galaxy features. We hope you like it!

PS. Unfortunately, we need to drop some titles from our classic catalog. In such cases, we always do our best to give you an advance warning and a last chance to purchase such games - preferably with a considerable discount. Check this news post to find out which titles are being removed from our catalog, when will it happen, and what parting discounts for them do we currently offer.

Looks like GOG have fixed the "wishlist it" button. It now works with Adblock Plus!

Are you sure? The wishlist button is still part of the social buttons group and still needs to be excluded from that specific blocking filter.

You are right, it looks like my filters are different between two different installations. On the other one it still doesn't work if "Fanboy's Social blocklist" is installed.

jepsen1977: Am I the only one who have a hard time getting to the promo page? I can't click on the top banners for the promo but when I go down to the News section I can click on the promo that will take me to a page with text about the promo but no links I can click and then I have to open the Comments section and in the first post by GOG there is a link somewhere I can click on that will take me to the actual promo page. I guess I don't have to say how tedious that is and doesn't encourage me to buy stuff.

I can't use arrows on banners either and my Game Collection loads VERY VERY slowly before I can DL games. Oh, and bring back colors, please.
Have the same issue.
The links are there, but are not styled as a link. The curious part is that this behavior only shows on my laptop (chrome on windows 8) but not on my desktop (chrome on 8.1) where links are clearly underlined. You can try it out on today's promo news article:
http://www.gog.com/news/birthday_promo_2014
You can see that the text "6th Birthday Promo page" is actually clickable, although there is no difference to the remaining text on the page.
Searching for a username to thanks brings this (also all usernames are un-clickable as shown below.

Rainmak3r: I'm one of those that didn't like the new layout, but as pointed out this happens with all changes: Facebook changed several times and each time it was like the end of the workd for somebody, so not a big deal, we'll get used to it.

I do *hate* the fact that they've removed the prices from the Wishlist, though. I'd like to be proven wrong (especially since judasiscariot said they're working on it), but my feeling is that this was done on purpose. It's well known that several people make use of the Wishlist to quickly check when prices drop for deals and the like, just as it is known that there are people who *only* buy games when they're on sale. This move seems an awkward way to fight this behaviour.

JudasIscariot: We did not remove those prices on purpose. We are working on bringing them back ASAP :)
So they were removed by accident, then? Which means no one checked before going live with the "new and improved" POS you now have to see what was missing that used to be there that shouldn't be missing? I don't really understand how something like that can just be an accident; to have it removed and not re-implemented and no one notice? Failing fast!

I've earned a couple extra dollars this week, and normally I'd be all about spending it on a few games that appeal, especially since it is GOGs birthday and I USED to love the site and would happily give them a few bucks if I could afford it and get myself a game that I won't play for years to come. I have Deus Ex GOTY on steam and would really like it DRM-free and it would have been my first cross-over game for me to own on both services, plus it has the soundtrack and that is great. But you know what? FECK YOU GUYS! I don't care! YEAH, that's right! *big middle fingers right at ya, GOG*

That's nth new, happened all the time even before the revamp. It's one of the many flaws and issues of the forum search function.
I'm VERY pleased that the no prices on wishlist bug is now fixed.
Hope for some design changes aswell but well...

Thanks, just checked my own and it's certainly fixed.

If we complaint when things are broken/wrong, it is fair to give the devs props when they fix it. Kudos to GOG web staff!

Ok, I've given it a few weeks now to get accustomed and I have come to the conclusion (which is the same as the immediate feeling) that I don't like the new look. It's too f-ing corporate, for your favorite deities sake, I now feel I should wear a three piece suit before coming here instead of just my underwear.

I just wanted to put this out in the open instead of complaining in an unrelated thread (aka the The Drunk Thread).

I aggree.
My long term opinion about this does not differ from the first impression which was not good at all.

The DRM free movies are ok, but the rest is bollocks and the new page design is outright unfriendly and cold.

Nice, step by step, we will get there...

@GOG

The filters to search by price are still as useless as they were before the revamp - 'Under 20', 'Under 10', 'Free, and 'Discounted', seriously? How about taking some lessons from mrkgnao and his truly useful search engine MaGog on how it's done properly?

And since we're on the subject, you might want to take a good look at this thread there and redesign the functionality of that page.

XD, cheers for the image and the laughs. :-)
To spite GOG, I still visit the site in my underwear, sometime wearing even less. ;-)
I wonder if that's the reason they don't listen to my suggestions. ;-P
This is the first time I logged in since the new design was implemented. I have difficulties with things being slow / not loading. It takes a long time to have my games page loading, then when I try to see what version a game is at, it sometimes works and sometimes doesn't (nothing happens). Meaning I click on the image of a game and it won't open the tab giving me my date purchased and downloads.

I am sorry if this was extensively talked about I have not read the 80+ pages to see if someone had the same problem. I have faith the Gog team will fix the problems with their new design. But I'll say it's frustrting to have a very slow (or broken) experience having access to games I've bought .

Perfect metaphor with the clothing. GOG is changing my used habits of wearing just underwear inside home...
Ok, prices in whishlist back. Just need to bring the remainder old site back.
