Hi, I bought a laptop recently (http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834232769) with a geforce gtx 960m and lately started to notice some sort of weird spots appearing inside level geometry. Like holes, almost.

In addition to that, when playing Shadow Warrior I suffered the same thing, as well as some textures flickering in pretty much every level.

I can't seem to find this anywhere online, but it's been happening in quite a few of my games. Is this normal? Can it be fixed? Should I be worried? Is my laptop already broken right out of the box and should I trade it in?

I tried multiple forums, but haven't gotten a reply from any of them for weeks now.

That geometry seems okay to me. I think it's probably fixed by anti-aliasing? But that's just a guess.
Both of those could actually just be modeling issues, i.e. small holes in the geometry due to planes not properly aligned in the first example, and overlapping surfaces in the second.

Are you sure none of that happened with your old pc?
Thanks for the reply, guys!

Anti-aliasing, either on or off or on all settings, doesn't seem to remedy the issue. The problem still seems to be there.

That's what I'm hoping.
But I found that a similar issue did happen on my old PC ONLY much later in its life cycle. Shortly after that, the problem got progressively worse before my computer eventually couldn't render 3D models without stretching them across the entire screen anymore.

I noticed these problems almost immediately after unboxing the laptop. I thought since it was a bit of a low budget game, Shadow Warrior probably had issues like that sort of "built in" but I logged in again today only to find that the problem had actually stretched even further (in the door example above, instead of just affecting the door, they're affecting the floor around the door as well (I can upload a video if you guys want)).

I guess I might just be paranoid, but the last few devices I bought were broken out of the box despite being bought "new." And I can't help but feel that maybe this is just another in the line of bad luck I've been having lately.

Try to reinstall the drivers

Well, I updated them, not sure if that counts?

On second thought, maybe I am being paranoid.
I just found footage with a similar "white spot" problem online. ._.

Though I still have the texture flickering thing going on in some places.

Three solutions?
Multi-solution is now a thing at last? Yay, GOG! In any case, I bet these 'holes' have something to do with the GPU. I might try to see if right clicking any game would result in a dialog called "Run with graphics processor," but do check it in any case!

Yep, I tried it with the Intel card, same issue. That's good, I guess? XD
But yeah, I felt I should just give everyone a solution +1 because I posted what is apparently a non-issue in a "help" topic. :(
Raising Rep and all.

So many solutions O_o
First video with SW is Z-buffer fighting. It often happens when you use not officially supported FOV (view angle), it messes the Z. For example Fallout New Vegas have this issue.

This can happen when you use officially not supported resolution, or you set view angle to not a unstandard one.

The rest is possibly also problems with Zbuffer, looks like texture order is improperly calculated.

Do you mean it isn't just a bug?

I dunno. Better to ask the GOG staff about this, but if it isn't a bug, guess things are better now.

If it was one game I'd say it could be a game bug or a video driver bug, but if it is many games then it is almost certainly a video driver bug. Make sure you update your video driver to the latest driver. If it has problems, you might want to search your video hardware vendor's forums and/or file a bug report in their forums etc.

It's a long-standing bug. This IS the first time I've ever seen three solutions, though (I've only ever seen one "extra" solution before).
