Up to 75% off TotalBiscuit's favorites: Pillars of Eternity, Wasteland 2, S.T.A.L.K.E.R., Pharaoh + Cleopatra and more.

Love him or hate him, TotalBiscuit is a force to be reckoned with. He's the guy that millions of gamers listen to on a daily basis - whether it's first impressions, reviews, or his trademark cynical commentary on industry news, ins and outs - The Cynical Brit's influence on a generation of gamers can be hotly debated, but never denied. Today, we take a look at some of his favorites, his top bites, the 30+ games that TotalBiscuit Recommends:

From the creative minds of Chris Avellone, Tim Cain and Josh Sawyer comes Pillars of Eternity, where adventure continues beyond the gate. It's a critically lauded revival of the classic cRPG in the vein of Baldur's Gate and Icewind Dale, to call it Obsidian Entertainment's spiritual sequel would be an understatement. Of course, that's not the only modern revival of old school favourites - Wasteland 2 is a sequel to the historic 1988 title that redefined RPG gameplay and inspired legendary titles like Fallout - full of multipathed quest solving, choice, consequence and maturity. Brilliant storytelling isn't just an RPG domain - classic point and click adventures like The Longest Journey or its big, action-adventure sister Dreamfall: The Longest Journey are known for featuring some of the most unique universes and best written tales in gaming. The list just goes on with some of absolutely top releases in gaming history including S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Call of Pripyat, Mount & Blade, Pharaoh + Cleopatra, and so much more!

phaolo: Roguelike?? Noo, your definition for that genre is wrong :P
It's a survival, maybe a bit too "hardcore".

Damn Steam Workshop :\
The way i see it, all of them are the typical survival-crafting games but the difference is that in Terraria and Minecraft the world persists after your death, on Don't Starve you have to start all over again.

As for the Workshop, actually there's a solution:

Wow. Just read through some of the comments in this thread. So much hatred towards TB.

I disagree with the guy probably more than anyone else, and he has that lethal combination of relative intelligence, strongly held views with a reluctance to consider the merits of opposing views (something I sometimes suffer from myself as those who have argued with me may have recognized) and lack of self confidence (masked by a veneer of over confidence). The guy often demonstrates the Dunning Kruger effect in his videos and podcasts, but one thing you can absolutely say about the guy is that his heart is in the right place.

He supports #gg because he genuinely thinks it's good for the industry and about games journalism (cf Nero or Sargon of Akkad for example), he supported the transphobic joke because he believed it wasn't transphobic, because he felt it's context was justified and because he thought the developer should be permitted to put what it wanted in the game (seemingly discounting the dev's right to also remove what it wanted from the game). He's made a number of mistakes but I would challenge anyone who would say that he isn't an ethical and moral (if not flawed) person.

I first found out about gog through Totalbiscuit some years ago. Since then I have not used any other service. As much as I disagree with the guy I have over the years, It must be obvious to even the most ignorant anti-TB hateboy that the exposure he gives to gog can only be a positive thing for DRM free gaming and, more importantly, competition in the games digital distribution world.

Even before Totalbiscuit came out on one side of the gamergate debate he was a divisive figure.
I have no idea why gog ever agreed to chum up with an internet celebritiy at all, let alone one who arouses such
strong feelings in people.

skinandbones13: GOG should get Anita Sarkeesian to choose some games :-)
avatar
Nicole28: Funny thing is if GOG invites Anita to recommend games, most people in this thread would behave the exact same way they are now accusing "Totalbiscuit haters" of doing. I personally dislike hypocrisy most of all, but that's just me.

And oh! Pillars of Eternity is close to what looks an actual sale for a first. I wonder if DOS and POE will ever hit the 50% mark, just like Wasteland 2 had?
Nope most people are reasoned individuals who just care about games here. It is the vocal outliers that would be doing that. It you were to add up the comments you'll find it is mostly the same people on either side of the argument with the majority just asking about the games or why they were chosen, or comments about games.

The way it should be.

You can also try steam workshop downloader (for some reason doesn't work on pale moon at all, and sometimes fails on firefox too) or the greasemonkey script that adds extra button on steam mod pages (that did work on palemoon as well as firefox for what I needed it at least)

Wonderful, there are some neat UI options and also a nice house+light mod! :D
No automation, probably, but that was a secondary issue.
Thanks

emlurker: I will not buy anything from Gog.com until this promotion is over.
Really, you're gonna be that upset because someone you don't like (likely for some bs reason) is named in a promo?

That's sad.
Okay, now that I've actually had 5 minutes to "log in" (yeah, somehow I could post on the forums but not access my account... I don't get it either) and take a proper look at the promo, I see that I already own about 3/4 of it and the other 1/4 isn't cheap enough for me to get, but I do want them. Nice promo :-)
What a great promotion! Thanks, GOG, for bringing Total Biscuit's recommendations to the site, this weekend. As a rabid GOG enthusiast, I find your site's dedication to the medium commendable. It's neat to see TB represented here. I definitely made the right choice, a couple years ago, when I decided to opt for GOG as my source for games, instead of any of the competitors. Keep up the great work! Don't change a thing. This promo makes me want to support your site even more.
I didn't comment on the recommendations in my previous post, so... Generally a pretty good combo. I already own at least half of these games (although not everything on GOG). I might be interested in others, but currently can't financially follow.

Anyways, it might be better if the promo was topical. Although that would also mean less games. But the mix would be more coherent. :)

Fesin: Perfect example of what Viper0hr was talking about. Sure, go on and insult somebody who calls for mutual respect. Great job!

I once had a lot of respect for the GOG community, and considered it the prime example of a good internet forum and discussion culture. I dunno when that changed - was it the whole Gamergate fiasco? The Witcher 3 release? tinyE joining*? Or even earlier? No idea, but it's really sad to see what became of this once respectable gaming community. Now it has become a cesspool like the rest of the internet.

* I'm joking! I love the guy, seriously.
Don't be disheartened. I think, largely, it's still a wonderful community. It was quite nice, watching users come together in the threads during the insomnia sales, helping each other out while taking turns away from the sales, posting lists of games for those who missed them, etc. A fantastic group of people, and even in this thread, I've noticed exactly 4 users bringing the tenor of the thread down into the effluvium. And all of them are down-voted as a reward for their incivility and lack of decorum. At least 90% of the folks here are keeping the thread as insightful and inviting as I've come to expect.

I'm usually a lurker, here, but I felt compelled to assuage your dismay a bit, by commending the pleasant, passionate and civil folks that help make this community so refreshing and enjoyable, you included. Keep it up!

Seriously? GOG offers discounts for good games and people roar because they were recommended by TotalBiscuit? So, I shouldn't buy Wasteland 2 or Pillars of Eternity with a discount because TotalBiscuit likes them? Or shouldn't I even play them because of that?

Sorry, but these people attacking gog because of this weekend offer are idiots. You dislike TB and that's okay. If you don't like the name, don't buy the game. That's okay, too. But I don't feel ashamed for giving 60 bucks to GOG even when TBs name stood on the offer (which will be gone by the end of the weekend, too).
Maybe I am too old, but frankly speaking I never seen anything coming from Total Biscuit, I have ZERO interest in this "celebrity" and lucky (at least for me) I didn´t lose any minute with him, not because I do not like him or not, just because the same reason I never like to see any TV program talking about movies, instead of seeing movies...

So I can frankly understand why some people is pissed off, but also understanding why they should not take these things so seriously. The best example to take things easy is watch the South Park episode about Pewpiwdie o whatever this guy is called...

As I said, call me old, but I find extremely stupid these times where people that talk about games get so famous, I think the people that should be famous is the people that MAKE the games... but seems "players" now became celebrities just because nowadays other people prefer see others talk about games and even see them playing instead of playing their games by themselves.

I guess people get tired of reading game reviews, thinking that most part of the times are not in league with their tastes or opinions, so they all moved to these opinion "gurus". All this phenomena is in my opinion, boring, empty, and stupid, with the gurus doing the same marketing functions as magazines did before.

But well, I repeat, maybe I am too old, and one day also, all this trend about youtubers will be old too. The important thing is that the promo is pretty good. IMHO

My problem with TB is that he always finds a way to belittle devs opinions and always side with the consumer while using his lawyer training to draw the the blame from him and cover his ass from dissenting opinions so that it seems like a one sided issue. I like the idea of the frp but this will continue to snowball (Thru abuse of curator system with group think and mob justice) .
