Crewdroog: Did anyone mention Din's Curse?

others have mentioned Grim Dawn and Path of Exile. Played both and both are very good, Grim is super dark, but steam :(
PoE is free to play (for realz, no hidden crap) and the closest thing to diablo 2 i can find. i really really like this game.

edit: derp, you mentioned it in your opening post. ignore me, move along!

tinyE: I think Din's Curse is Diablo Clone Xtreme. XD

You can be attacked while you are in town getting supplies and resting. THAT'S CHEATING! :P
yeah that game is nuts. and then people started dying and if you don't do things fast enough you fail quests and then more people die. I was like "If i wanted a strategy game, i'd have bought one!!! i'm not managing my quests and towns people!" Lol i should probably give it another try at some point.

paladin181: No one Mentioned Divine Divinity or Beyond Divinity? Not terribly Diablo like in gameplay but definitely much so in graphics style and interface. There aren't hordes of enemies or hoards of loot, but they're great games nonetheless.
I tried and tried to play divine divinity but I was not very good at making characters in that game. It was too hard even on easy for a survivor. I dont like that game at all.

deathknight1728: I am sad to say that the only rpg genre that I love that is NOT on here is that of the diablo clones. All the ones that are on here are either ones I didnt like at all, or loved to extreme and already played a shit ton. Depths of Peril and Dins Curse are excellent and I am playing Drox operative too.
Problem is there really are no other ones I like. Sacred 1 and 2 are fun but they get boring as they are too nonlinear. This genre I like linear.

Diablo 1 and 2
Harbinger (Great game ask you know who)
Space Hack (Its not the greatest but still fun and unique)
Titan Quest (I finally got to liking it and found a build that works)
Loki (Meh but not bad)
Hero Siege (Hard as shit but fun)
Forge Quest (Fun and reminds me of Zelda and Diablo having a baby)
Darkstone (Horrible graphics yet fun still)

Other games that should be mentioned on pc-

Prince of Qin (Party based action rpg-DbloCLone)
Seal of Evil (Like POQin but I havent been able to beat due to disc being unable to install on comp)
Way of the Warrior-Not a bad game and fun if you like playing the barbarian in D2 :)
Planet Alcatraz- (Meh but not bad)
Silverfall (I am horrible at this game yet it is fun and has a cool setting)

I missed a ton but those are the ones that I dont play that much. It would be good if this genre is on here. Roguelikes-Crpgs (Like eschalon and Bgate and Fallout), Tactical Rpgs (Jagged Alliance) are all categories that have a shit ton on gog. This genre needs more!

:)

With my limited experience with it that was my experience as well. So much going on and feeling pressed to be everywhere at the same time. I don't like feeling rushed in games so everytime I've tried it I haven't really enjoyed it.
There's Jade Empire

No. XD To me, and this may just be me, there is a level of complexity that separates a, RPG from Diablo or a Diablo clone. Diablo and the like have really simple upgrade systems that primarily just apply to offense and defense, and 99% of the action is slaughter baddies, pick up loot, repeat. Jade Empire is much more along the lines of a NWN. There are countless tweeks you can make to a character that go way beyond just how fast they are and what weapon they use. Also JE has missions and tasks that go beyond, KILL SO AND SO and then return for your reward, not to mention that JA, like most RPGs, are much more open as to what you can do, need to do, and when to do.

The closest game I have ever played to JE is the two KOTOR games and I've never considered them or heard of them as Diablo clones.

To be fair, you can disable the town invasions and such with an option whenever you generate a new town, and also set how fast quests progress and how often townsfolk take it upon themselves to do stuff like try to solve fetch quests themselves (though some of these options were only added with the expansion). If I've gotten my ass handed to me a couple times in a row with a given character, I'll often enable that option for one town. It does seem a bit like cheating, though, so I'll usually turn it back off the next time. But I usually play with the pace set to slow -- I'd rather take the XP penalty than lose town after town because I wasn't able to get far enough down in the dungeon fast enough solve key quests.
It's got its quirks and limitations, and there's no story to speak of, but for people who like dungeon-crawling ARPGs and roguelikes, it's just about the perfect game.

I understand why people wouldn't like that -- I really do (and as noted, you can disable it if you wish). I personally enjoy it because (a) I'm a masochist, but also (b) it gives a lot more dimensionality to my game play; things are actually going on while I'm hacking and slashing my way through the dungeon, and it gives actual weight to the things I do. It's made saving a town all the more satisfying.

But damn, if it isn't annoying when the town gets invaded and all of the merchants get killed off.

Potions? Why potions since each and almost every Diablo-style game has them? If you were to go by that criteria, you'd have to throw out every single action RPG out there :)

An invasion is nothing. Try getting a tornado after you go two levels into the dungeon :D
