elcook: Just wanted to drop by here to let you know it's not phishing or any scam. The email was sent by GOG, and we are asking users to update their GOG GALAXY application to the latest version (there is a bug in the previous version that prevents users to update the app in the future).

You can download the latest version of the app from www.gogalaxy.com or from www.gog.com/galaxy - they both are owned by GOG.

Thanks and sorry for confusing y'all! Stay safe!
Sorry, but this is spam.
I don't use Galaxy 2.0, don't need it, don't want it and don't like it. And of course i didn't authorized GOG to send me communications about that.
This is the second unsolecited and unwanted mail frog GOG about Galaxy 2.0. There will not be a third, because gog.email.com is now in my spam filter.

It's not really spam. Basically, if i read the email correctly, a bug will prevent galaxy 2.0 from ever updating, which is not good. An email is the most effective method to deliver that message, even if it was delivered poorly. If they track users that use galaxy, they will get hate. Delete the email and move on with your life.
A spam mail is an unwanted and unsolecited mail. It doesn't matter the reason of it, if a user doesn't requested and there is no reason to receive it, then the mail is spam.

I opted-out from all comunication from GOG, so GOG should not have sent me the first mail with the advertise of Galaxy 2.0 and more than this, should not have sent me the communcation about an update of a product i don't use.
Doesn't matter how many time my post get downvoted (wow, that's childish), spam is still spam.
Anyway, yeah... i put communications from GOG in my spam folder and moved on.

Oh, and to be clear, this kind of behaviour is in breaking of EU laws. Just to mention it.

While i get what you're saying, but if someone does not wish to get emails then they should not get them. There's no reason not to also have the info on social media or sticky here. Swallow up the pride and inform

That bit right there is what makes it spam in the case of someone who has done so.

Not the case for me, but I'm pretty sure Tharon isn't the only person in the same situation. Similarly, 2.0 is a beta, and most of the users upset about having 2.0 forced on them are OPTED OUT of beta testing. So shouldn't be having a beta forced on us or be getting contacted with a demand to "update" to a beta version of software which we have a proper stable version of.

From seeing multiple reports of users losing access to their GOG games when trying to use Galaxy 2.0, I've been prompted to revert to - and block from updating - the 1.2 client and to stick with that until 2.0 is actually ready for release, because right now, it's really not.
i also wasn't able to tell if the email was legit or not.

I think it would help if gog only served up galaxy from gog.com/galaxy, because gogalaxy.com seems exactly like a phishing scam would pull.

Hi,

thanks for the clarification.
The Email leaves some questions, so i'll ask them here, hope that this is okay:
- so, is version 2.0.15 the Version i need or has it a bug and i need to install galaxy
anew? As it says that the 2.0.15.43 is a beta it is unclear if this has a bug (because its
a beta) or it is the right version.

- is there a way to update Galaxy via the client or do i always have to wait for an
auto update or( if it is broken) have to install it anew?

And for the future:
Some more instructions would be nice (for instance where i can see my Galaxy Version etc.)
to have in such an email.
Took me some time to get all the info i need!

Thanks for the help!
Keep up the good work!

- If you download and install Galaxy now, you'll have the latest version.
- If you already have Galaxy installed, it will offer you to update to the latest version inside the client.
- Right now, all versions of Galaxy 2 are beta.

I was tired and thought "ok, click the link". After the install i saw the link name "gogalaxy" - F***! I always tell people to watch where they click, and here I totally fucked up! The name would be goggalaxy, not gogalaxy! It's like clicking on the amazone.com-link! I'm an idiot!!!

So I disable my internet connection immidiatly, start up Windows Defender and Malware Bytes, and pray. After uninstalling everything gog-related. Well, everything from the past days.

And now, I haven't found anything, I come back here to see if it has happened to others, and maybe get a hint how to kill whatever I got on my PC, and I find this. "gogalaxy", really?

God, I'm pissed off... Relieved, but pissed off!

Which, of course, means that it shouldn't be getting forced onto users who have not merely not requested to be in beta testing, but have directly and unambiguously verified that they're opted out of beta testing.

...but lets just ignore the bit where that isn't what's happening... thanks GOG...

Well, I guess Galaxy is a "service", like a lot of software nowadays. (hey, don't shoot the messenger!)
The good news: you don't need it to play GOG single player games. Want a launcher that's completely under your control? Try Launchbox or Nlite.

Since you're still here - any chance someone's going to drop by the forum and let us know what the deal is with the lack of update flags for standalone installers since early April?
I can't help but to be amazed at how anal people can be around here.

I'd also like to know why there aren't any changelogs on the website. It wasn't such a big issue for me before, but now that I nuked Galaxy off my system after the forced 2.0 switch, I can't help but wonder why there aren't any changelogs on the website itself. Am I missing something? Are they hidden somewhere?
