I don't use Oculus, but screw FB for this anti-consumerism. If enough people mass exodus Oculus, maybe FB will change their mind. I wouldn't be surprised if they introduced subscription models immediately after so people can pay to avoid ads. They're more alluring to companies these days than worn shoes to foot fetishists.
StingingVelvet: I'm as guilty as anyone, owning a phone I know was made using what is basically slave labor by an evil dictatorship. I don't know what the answer is to this basic fact of human nature.
Haven't used them before, but I heard good ethical things about
Fairphone where they ensure the materials don't have any ethical conflicts and people are compensated fairly along the supply chain. Not sure if they work on US networks, so do your own research if it piques. The only alternative is to buy a used smartphone so you split the suffering per phone and help reduce e-waste.
