For anyone interested, Terry Cavanagh just released the source code for VVVVVV

(It's not Open Source by the OSI definition, as the license forbids selling works based off the source code.)

(For those not aware, VVVVVV is a pure platformer with retro-style graphics and sound in which you can't jump; instead, you can flip, which causes you to fall upward.)

Thank you for posting this here. I'd probably have missed that, although I might have stumbled upon it while looking for dicey dungeons' patch notes.

Probably a good thing. The link was unabashed in admitting how the game is a bad example in terms of writing good code. In fariness, my work ten years ago was embarassing as well.

It would however give modders more flexibility in terms of defining custom effects - I'm told there were certain sequences hardcoded into the engine that couldn't be exposed to scripting.
