I just did a speed test and I'm getting 61 Meg according to google. Despite that my 4GB download says it'll take 5 hours...This is a download of an offline backup for a game.

Is this happening to anyone else?

Now it's sped up. Must have been a server hiccup or maintenance of some sort.

I've also experienced greatly slowed download speeds. It seems to be happening during the Spring Sale.

I'll have to try again next week and see if it's still occuring.

It’s funny, these threads pop up every so often. They are written as if everyone worldwide has the same issue with GOG. I just downloaded the surge, and four other games, plus some updates, absolutely no problems what so ever full speed as normal. 4gb took around 20mins.

So, let’s see, have you done full trace back on the stream, identified exactly where the issue is. No, you just assumed that it’s gog fault. Now I am not saying there isn’t slowdown from gogs side, I am sure it’s fully possible due to sales. However is it not also very likely that it could be YOUR end, or perhaps YOUR ISP? Maybe they are slowing the speeds due to increased network use worldwide. Perhaps it’s trump building a digital wall between US and Europe?
I think there must be a problem with one of the North American download servers as almost all of these threads are from USA.

I'm not sure where the harsh criticism is coming from, I was merely agreeing with the OP that I was having the same issue. I don't have issues with other sites I go to. I'm glad it's working for you and not sure where I implied I was blaming GOG. I read some of your posts during my usual browsing of the general topics and thought you had decent posts, so I wasn't expecting to be ambushed and attacked in this manner. Kinda of a shame to see such behavior from someone I thought I could respect.

Hmm, haven't really looked into the issue but thanks for that info. Only thing I've done so far is reboot my Netgear hardware.

I should have perhaps made it more it general as it’s not a direct reply to you. However, if you look through the pages on the general forum, you will see this topic over and over, a new one appeared a few hours ago:
https://www.gog.com/forum/general/slow_download_speeds_using_browser
Or this one, bit earlier, shows the tone which is so annoying, as if it’s gog delarately slowing down their internet:

To me it appears these "slow download speed" messages seem to come pretty much always from three places:

1. United States (I presume some parts of US, not necessarily the whole of US)
2. Australia
3. China

I hardly ever see anyone in e.g. Europe complain about slow download speeds on GOG, unless it is something like "I have a 1Gbps connection but it is downloading only at 700Mbps! What's up with this bullshit HUH?!?". Or then there are those who get confused between megabits/second (Mb/s) and megabytes/second (MB/s).

I guess in China's case it might be sometimes with the Great Firewall of China, but why US and Australia too, dunno.

Then again, as you indicated, now it is corona time so some countries, ISPs or CDN providers might be slowing down the transfer speeds on purpose.

kmidst: Very slow download speed
May have something to do with millions of people going online at the same time due to quarantaine?
I mean, several streaming services are already throtteling their streaming bandwidth because of that.

Somewhere it has to show, when much more people use the internet in unison, than at normal times.
Since two of the major ISPs in Australia are currently offering unlimited downloads at the moment for its fixed line customers I'd say the entire network over here is under far more load than usual. Even my local cell tower is choking a bit at the moment.
I randomly get slow speeds through browser. It's usually rare though, and if I simply wait a little bit it'll speed up.
To all,

Maybe I didn't specify, but my internet speed was normal in general except for the GOG download. I wasn't suggesting it was purposeful, just wondering if others had the same thing going on. Sometimes servers get overloaded, etc. But if even if they did slow down speeds temporarily during all this quarantine insanity, I would completely understand. Anyway, no hate from me towards GOG, I love the service. The fact that I can even get DRM free downloads is the reason I'll always buy on GOG before Steam or any others.
