tinyE: It's gotten to the point that I think I'm going to start rooting for the terrorist.
Which terrorist you are rooting for? Madonna? She said she is going to blow up White House. :D
avatar
tinyE: ALSO, a lot of the tech firms over here are losing employees who cannot get back in the country. and the NBA and NHL are now afraid to travel to Canada for games for fear they won't be able to get all of their players back.
Should not have hired those illegal immigrants.

They aren't illegal.

Several of them have full U.S. citizenship.

Wait, why am I arguing with you? You watch "Schindler's List" and root for the guards.

If they have full US citizenship they can appeal to Law.
And you mistook me with someone else. I didn't watch "Schindler's List" movie and have no idea what "guards" you are talking about.

RWarehall: Right. So no one had an agenda when they took pictures from the back of the crowd on the day of the inauguration and put them side-by-side with Obama's first inauguration, right? This wasn't intended by the media to demean or belittle Trump or play politics? They were being "fair and balanced" right? Just reporting the news? Bullshit.

How naive of you.
Get over yourself. Like there wouldn't have been side to sides comparing if Trumps crowd had been bigger. So boohoo, the press is highlighting how his inaugurations crowd didn't compare to the last presidents inauguration crowd. Like Obama didn't have 8 years of crap being thrown at him in the news, including from Donald Trump *himself*. Had Trump not bothered to respond it, not *falsely* claimed his crowd was bigger, it wouldn't have even been news the next day. Instead he not only let's it trigger him, he uses the White house resources to try and mislead the public.

You're not seriously telling me this is a proper reaction by the white house to criticism (is it even?) are you?

You said: "Several of them have full U.S. citizenship. ". Name those US citizens, please.
I want to track theirs cases.

Shadowstalker16: Wait what? US citizens who immigrated to the US but went to visit their home country cannot return? That sounds kinda retarded; how could anyone verify their original country in the first place? Their passport have their previous country listed and US airport authorities are checking those? Please explain this.
avatar
dtgreene: Replace "citizen" with "permanent resident" and yes, that is indeed what is happening.

From what I understand, passports have the country of birth listed, and if it happens to be one of the 7 forbidden countries, the person is not allowed to travel, despite having a green card and being a permanent resident.

Also, it's not just visiting one's country of origin that causes this; it's leaving the us *at all*, even if it's just to Canada.

Also, people with dual Iran/other citizenship (where Other != US) are also being turned away, and it is pretty much impossible to renounce Iran citizenship.

Yes, it really is that bad.
Hmm that is indeed very strange and nonsensical. So this applies to people from the visa ban listed countries who aren't full citizens yet correct?

Relax Pheace, because The Netherlands and Canada are about the become the most powerful nations on the planet.

Pretty soon you will be home to every major tech firm that was forced out of here, not to mention the countless other geniuses that are no longer allowed in the country.

You know why the Nazi's lost the war? Because they deported and or liquidated everyone who could have won it for them.

History repeats itself.

I have a friend whom I haven't talked to in a while that I imagine would be affected by this.

He's from Iran. His sister lives in the US. He has a "permanent resident" status, which is basically a soft citizenship. He's finishing a Ph.D in Japan, and as soon as it's over he was planning to go live with his sister in the US and do a post-Doc at IBM. Because of this arrangement he can't go through the full citizenship process quite yet, but in order to keep his permanent resident status he needs to be constantly traveling between the US and Japan back and forth. This traveling ban might keep him away for long enough to lose his current status.

Haha, somehow I doubt the Netherlands will ever be the most powerful anything :)

Though we do seem to have started a good international abortion effort at least

I got rid of my American flag but my Netherlands flag still hangs proudly in my room.

Yes, this seems to be very badly thought out plan. One would guess why these particular countries were included. Also the sudden nature of it and hit or miss chance of keeping people in or out.
This is probably a good example of Trump's impulsiveness and impatience causing problems. Previous presidents had a habit of not sending out executive orders willy nilly, realizing their actions have far-reaching consequences. Usually, before signing an EO out, presidents of both parties used to send it through several teams of experts and lawyers who'd give it a once-over and make note of the results said order would have so when the time came for the president to sign the EO, there'd be a minimal amount of unintended consequences like the ones we're seeing now due to the EO's being specifically worded to avoid those. Various government officials have already complained how vague Trump's EO's are worded, which isn't surprising.

Trump is still setting up shop and distrusts teams of experts anyway, so now he's just throwing out EO's that he and Bannon penned themselves without submitting them for review first.

Several parties, corporations and civil rights groups, are already pushing back so hopefully this'll be a good early lesson for Trump that being CEO is different from being president of the US, though he really should have had his shit together before he took the oath to begin with.

How is the raft to Canada coming along? Are you looking at the east coast, west coast or upper Canada? FYI the weather is better in lower mainland B.C. if you don't mind the rain. We do get US tv channels so you can get the good commercials during the Superbowl. (Go Falcons)

I saw a poster the other day on social media that I think hits the nail on the head, It said, "Don't blame Trump he did everything during the campaign to not get elected!!"
