Most people will remember this one, since it happened only three months ago.
The story
There is a magic code that will let you redeem any game on GOG.
The fact
After the reveal of Cyberpunk 2077's trailer in E3, a rumor appeared assuring that typing the code "MMLXXVII" ("2077" in Roman numerals) into the GOG Redeem page would grant any game from the catalogue. Later, some variations of the rumor restricted this to one game per account and only games up to $9.99. Although a long list of games (60+ pages) appeared, no one was able to redeem a single game, which didn't stop a massive flow of visitors to GOG's website. At some point the redeem page crashed. GOG had to include a statement saying that "MMLXXVII" is not and had never been a valid code.
The most likely explanation was that, because of some leftover code, any redeem code beginning with "MM" brought up a list of games, but were never supposed to be massively given away.
