phaolo: Uh, ok then.

Btw, Ciris, remember the alt users problem too, please.
That's issue n1, because it affects reputation and increase scam attempts.
The alt user problem takes more than one solution to resolve - here, we're bringing one or two that can help in keeping at least part of any spam/hate you may get personally at bay. As I've said in some previous posts here, more forum, chat, and other-forms-of-being-social-online features are in various levels of progress, planning, or brainstorming.

Sorry about that! Were you perhaps in the quoting thread of the person that asked? I'll try and go back to fix it so the right person is quoted, though, thanks!

Ok, thanks.

The first easier step, however, is to require real different emails for each new account.
They should need confirmation and must not be temporary adresses.
The current scammer was using fake emails.

is this on the same level as we are listening to your feedback really we are ?
and then doing nothing

because so far gog has shown us very little reason to take this at face value

i personally will believe these features when i actually see them and not when they are promised to me to appear down the line

Define real emails. It is relatively easy to set up a mail server that sends any {string}.user@host to user@host, so you can have any number of real mail accounts in seconds. Set up one mail server, have infinite emails.

I doubt that nes400 has a custom mail server, but anyway.. isn't there some blacklist or whitelist of known non-spammy hosts?
Maybe Gog could try to accept only the verified ones?

Off topic , but can someone explain this ?

This is a start, but what was the announced downtime for today about? It couldn't have been features that are coming in a week or so, could it? That wouldn't make any sense.

*Much head scratching.*

RBL but that's for hardcore spammers.
Hurrah for getting back stuff they never should have taken out. Perhaps in another three months we'll have colour again.

What you're bringing is something that should never have been removed in the first place so I really don't believe this to be a part of the solution when I highlighted the potential for harassment over 3 months as linked in my previous post. So this really is the proposed solution that you indicated last week?! I am pretty much beyond the point of disappointment as based on past experience I knew nothing else would be done and called it before.

Quote: "The only thing they are going to do is bring back the Block and Report button in Chat and garner praise for restoring a feature they actually removed from the old PM system. Some people will once again hail it as GOG listening to their customers and be appeased by it."

So I'm with Cyraxpt this is not a solution but the absolute bare minimum that you guys could do and should have done a long time ago but we still have to wait for another two weeks to actually get the features back. Since you're the community manager here do you really know why so many threads demanding serious action from GOG have popped up in the past few days? If not then I suggest you read this summary of the events that transpired in a thread created by Phc7006, the likes of which have been a staple on the forum and are an integral part of what makes this community so great.

After going through that it should be clear why so many of us regular forum goers are fed up with the lack of responsibility along with the general disregard GOG has shown towards improving the forum over the years despite the extremely dedicated community which has kept this place going regardless through efforts like Barefoot Essentials and MaGog to name a couple. The promise of planning the implementation of potential improvements in the forum is something that we have heard many times before and are frankly tired of providing suggestions for GOG only to see them cast aside without any actual visible change resulting from it.

As Chamb said, "it was touching only our servers infrastructure, there were no changes to the code of the application at this time."

Looks like they have some out-of-date stuff in their setup. Nothing that breaks, but things which are advised to be brought up to current specs. That's not uncommon, standards change fairly rapidly and a lot of places don't redress it until it truly breaks.

Thanks. For some reason I couldn't find that thread.

A screenshot Mrkgnao posted showed it came from the cs.cis.ru (or something like that) forum. The forum that has made the generic cracks for Steam, which seems to have a few excellent crackers and quite a few script kiddies present. So no, assuming they don't have access to a custom mail server is silly, especially since one can setup such a server on their own, with the use of dyndns (or similar) and a Pi/arduino.

And which are the verified ones? Do work e-mail counts? Do personal servers counts? What about servers that share an IP address with other servers?
Setting up a whitelist is almost guaranteed to block legitimate users, setting up a blacklist is almost guaranteed to let malicious users through. What is best for GOG?

so care to adress this ? http://www.gog.com/forum/general/update_blocking_users_and_deleting_messages_on_chat/post55

i cant help but notice that you and other gog employees dodge constructive criticisms and zero in on the little things that dont matter
