Hi just crossed this info on the web, and only wanted to relay it here in case people are using it and may not see this info.
So a security flaw has been detected, but it as been corrected in the last version, so if you use 7zip, update it as soon as possible !

The article :
https://www.pcgamer.com/a-serious-security-vulnerability-has-been-found-in-7-zip/

The site of 7zip :
https://www.7-zip.org/

That's all :)

Ahah XD I personally use both, but mainly 7zip :P
I'm sometimes discovering vulnerability/updates to do thanks to GOG's forum because I'm not at all following computer "informations" on the web, so for once that I fortunately crossed that, I thought it could be useful to some others who may be like me ! So I'm glad if it helps :)

I use 7zip only as portable addition,
start it once to unpack, and rarely also start it once per creating archive, and promptly close upon finish.
I doubt some one will manage to hijack my machine during this brief time period it is running?
Also, wouldn't it require for a Spyware Bot already present and operational on my system for that even being possible?

I'm not really good in computer things :P My main suggestion would simply be to use the latest version, even if you use only the portable one and for brief periods ;) I think it would be more safe.
And for more technical questions... Sorry here I can't answer, I don't know more XD

Good program and to my liking as well as free. I did happen to visit the page within hours after the May version was uploaded so I already have it but good to spread the word, thanks.

Tauto: Winrar user but pretty sure someone put up a thread about this a month or so ago.
It had an issue in January:

https://www.cvedetails.com/vulnerability-list/vendor_id-9220/7-zip.html

edit: It looks like version 18.05 includes the fix.

I can empathise as I never remember exact dates. "Last year..... I think" turns out to be three years ago....

I know. God forbid I suggest that the mighty and all powerful Tauto makes such a mistake here on the forums.

I was just providing a link.

You'll note it doesn't list the most recent issue.

Lucky you. I remember everything which quite often is a curse.
