Sounds like some things are lost in translation... which is sorta too bad, but can be funny.

If you've never watched Azumanga Daioh, there's one episode where the girls are talking about written words in Japanese, about how combinations of smaller words becomes something entirely different, like sea + pigs = dolphin. (Although the English dub seems to be lacking the hemorrhoids explanation at the beginning...)

Well, I already own Grey Matter. Ring Runner also seems nice. It would be #2 on my list. You seem to have good taste in games.
I will take a better look at them if I ever find them at a more affordable price.

So here is the conversation from HER point of view:

Me: You know, one day I would like to buy a book about us.
She: You mean you would like to write a book about us?

In short, I want to read a book about knots, she understands that I want to read a book about us (and our family). That makes no sense to her, and thus she may have misunderstood something. The most obvious possibility for her would be to change read with write.

Me (puzzled): No! Not write! I would like to buy a book about us.
She (puzzled also): But... who would write it?
Me: I've already seen several books about us!

She then reevaluates everything and finaly understands that she was misinterpreting the word knots as us. Things then fall into place.
Maybe I'm just beating a dead horse, and this is not as funny when told by me without the proper intonation. :-/

I have seen only a couple of episodes of Azumanga Daioh. I found it quite funny, and it does not take itself too seriously. :-) I hope to watch it all some day. I gave volume #1 of the manga to my sister a few years ago. I hope she had read it by now.

I've had my japanese compliment by japanese people, thanks to the power of anime! ^_^ Given that I know very little Japanese, I think it is the pronounciation of Portuguese that is quite similar. You can put a Portuguese kid reading romanji with no trouble.

It may seem like I'm derailing this conversation, but I would like to finish by saying that the Japaneese Cross Knot, in my book about knots is called the Square knot. See? I managed to tie the entire post neatly! ^_^

This was commented somewhere already :P It's just confusing that people will call the square wii something else. Why do people have to confused one we with another us?

I particularly like the "<span class="bold">Double Carrick Bend</span>", it's very useful for tying two heavy ropes together.

I have a wooden key cabinet that shows three different knots. The top one is a "Double Carrick Bend", the other two are the "Hangman's Knot" and the "Mast Head Bend".  (see the attachment)

When you look at the knot, it seems it would be better described as a double sheet bent. I've made this knot from my book before, although i've never actually used it...

huh? Looks like a fireman's chair knot, i think... i know i've seen that third loop elsewhere (Besides the good luck knot)... But i don't feel like searching the entire book i have for it though.

Not even a 'this knot keeps me from tripping when i wear shoes' description? Or why you love it?

That's the name written on my key cabinet. There's an article about this knot on <span class="bold">Wikipedia</span>. It's also called Jury Mast Knot, Masthead Knot, Pitcher Knot and Jury Masthead, but there's no reference to the Fireman's Chair Knot.

On the topic of knots, i noticed something interesting, and that the Bowline and the Sheet bend are the same thing... The difference is the Sheet pend you start with a U, and wrap around it, while the Bowline you start with the wrap/coil and add the U at the end...

Kinda interesting and a little crazy...
