Unreal and Unreal Tournament games have now been delisted from Steam

https://www.pcgamer.com/epic-is-delisting-almost-every-unreal-game-but-making-unreal-tournament-3-free/

I'd recommend anyone who hasn't got these games yet, grab them before they are delisted here.

Could anyone from GOG confirm if they will be delisted here?

Thanks!

Since they say there will be crossplay along the platforms and they also mentioned GOG, they probably remove the games here, too.
My wild guess is that it will be done tomorrow when they start working.
An utterly idiotic move from Epic. There is zero reason to remove the games from stores, they are perfectly playable offline with bots and the single player campaign. I have hundreds of hours throughout all the UT games and 99% of that was in single player.

At least we're getting UT 3, but still... Fuck Epic for turning their back on the franchise that made them relevant.

Yeah, if they stay delisted, that's incredibly bizarre.

Indeed. That's such an incredibly dumb move. No one's ever going to bother with Unreal 1 & 2 but for their singleplayer campaigns, and matches with bots are still plenty fun in UT GotY and '04. Guess we'll call them abandonware then and it'll be a free-for-all for pirates. Epic be dumb. What else is new?

So stupid if they pull the games from here. All are playable offline with Bos which have some of the best AI in any games and makes these games just as fun. Unreal 1 is an important game for the history of gaming as it pushed what graphics could do back then and was a fun shooter.

I really dont like epic with their exclusie bull for a lot of new games and the way they want to sue just about anyone. Now this if there is no good reason they are worse than EA.
Sounds like a good of a time as any to do a fresh download of the offline installers for all the UT's in your library then.

Thanks for the heads up, many fond memories from both UT & UT 2004.
Shame on Epic Games, Unreal Tournament and Unreal Tournament 2004 are 2 of multiplayer video games sold on gog.com that have 100% Digital Rights Management (DRM) free multiplayer.

The fact that they have been pulled from Steam, but are still here as we speak is a good sign IMHO. GOG these days has better relations with Epic than Epic has with Steam, so it's fully possible all the UT games will remain on GOG, or at least so I hope. Since most of them have a strong single-player component and DRM-free multiplayer, it would make no sense to pull them outside of "politics".

Epic has done some good things historically as a whole (they shared Unreal/UT99 source codes and let the community handle patching to this day - that's how OldUnreal came to life)... I'd say Tim Sweeney himself is a more relevant target for your ire and some of the bad decisions taken at Epic, including the EGS and the war on Steam.

I am not much into multiplayer, but GoG set up dedicated UT 2004 servers in 2010 , so they could keep multiplayer for this game on their side.

I am well aware. Epic used to be one of my favorite companies, until Fnite completely clouded their brains.

How did they open source them? He wrote about doing that maybe some time many years ago, but there is still nothing, otherwise everyone could see/modify/share it. The source code is still very closed, but there are some people (OldUnreal) that got access maybe coupled with a NDA.

I dunno bro, but for me there is the good ole Epic and then there is Epic after Chinese 10cent investment we see nowadays. I can't look at it as the same company no matter what, same goes for other brands only-in-name etc. I don't think 10cent cares for Unreal's legacy and other "sentimental" stuff like we oldtimers do. I think Sweeney deep down cares for their classics, but he chose his path and now better follows the trail of money and commie agenda. Epic is beyond the point of no return in oldschool terms, so a move like this doesn't surprise me one bit. At some point EGS will likely begin to charge users some sort of a subscription fee if they want to keep using their accounts and play those "freebie" games gathered over the years there.

Yeah, sorry, that's what I meant. The code is still closed-source, but community members have access to it and have taken over maintaining it. I am sure NDAs are in place.

Unfortunately, I don't think it will get any more "open" than this. Epic has a history of making their games available (some as freeware), but AFAIK they've never open sourced anything. Not even Jill of the Jungle.
