Styg announces UnderRail: Expedition

from the link:

"In Expedition you'll be able to take a break from the usual metro-crawling to take a boat to the infamous Black Sea, a massive underground body of water.

There, among the old and mysterious ruins of an age long past, you'll face the vicious fauna, hostile natives, cunning pirates, and something far more sinister than all of those.

Your voyage through vastness of the Black Sea will shed new light on the history of the world of Underrail and the forces that shaped it.

Expedition will feature the following:

- A brand new story line that becomes available during the mid-game

- Over a 100 new areas to explore of various types - shores and islands of the Black Sea, mysterious underground facilities, pirate strongholds, and more

- New human factions, as well as wild creatures to combat

- New items and crafting recipes

- New skills and feats

- Leveling past level 25 with a special pool of feats to choose from

Over time we'll be revealing more details through the dev log, so expect those to once again flow regularly as they did before the game's release.

We expect to release the expansion during the first half of 2017 as a paid DLC."

It's looking really nice... but I'm still to buy the original game...
Sounds like a really cool concept, I just read about it on RPS. Glad to see they did well enough to make another game, I want to see more games like this.
I'm really stoked that the storyline picks up mid-game! Among other things, of course!

what's the delay?!

Awesome news, Thanks drealmer.

I think I have nearly 200 hours in UnderRail already, sounds like there'll be at least hundred more.
I'll definitely try another run when this comes out. Deep Caverns brought an end to my 200hr run, but maybe they've been made less crappy by now.
more information released here!!!
Nice!!.

You should!
Unless you're the type of player that doesn't like being challenged, if so, keep distance.
It's no piece of cake.
Does this expansion include Goat Mom?

Or am I thinking of Undertale?
I didn't expect an expansion for UnderRail. There goes my free time... :P
The original was very atmospheric, vast, and utterly hostile. All of these traits made for an extremely rewarding experience. However, the narrative was weak. Whatever the player accomplished, the end result was total indifference and the feedback to the player was very weak or non-existent. For example I had to choose between the rebels and the established militaristic faction (don't remember the names any more) and after I made my choice and finished the relevant quests... nothing. Just a "congratulations" by the faction's leader and that's it.

Another serious problem was the almost impossible navigation. Unless one finds a map online, it's impossible to manage the complexity of the multitude of interconnected, multi-level areas that comprise the game world. That was not an enjoyable challenge - it was bad game design. No in-game facility for a map whatsoever in a game that needed it more than any other game I've ever played was just a game-breaker.

So I am strongly interested in this expansion but I will get it only if the story is more involving or at least if the player's actions provide with more feedback regarding their repercussions. It's easier said than done of course, because to achieve this the developer needs to integrate the results of the player's actions to the rest of the world and it's a lot of work, but this is imperative for a good RPG - this is what made fallout 1&2 the standard which everything post-apocalyptic is judged against.

Plus, i feel it's the perfect opportunity for the developer to intergrate some sort of map/minimap to the game. I agree that the absence of a mapping system in a game like this is clearly bad design (UnderRail isn't a dungeon crawler anyway so there is nothing oldschool-ish to that) and I'm willing to bet that it is the main deterrent for many gamers who would like to buy this game.

During my playthrough, I spent so much time trying to map the entire thing (too stubborn to look at an online map) that ultimately it wasn't fun after a while. The thing is that, even with the help of an online map, the navigation still is somewhat painful & frustrating at times.

Still, I do recommend this game for it's excellent gameplay & atmosphere but if you dive into its world, expect to be frustrated so make sure you have plenty of free time to devote to.

I look forward to this!

Underrail is a long game, but one I did manage to play through to the end. Also liked it enough that I usually had the Wiki open and was adding stuff to it as I played. I don't often do that..

Loved it!

Personally, I didn't miss having a built-in map. While the game-world is pretty big, it wasn't sooo big that I couldn't find my way around pretty well without a map.

I'd almost rather there were some sort of parchment-style "Thief-like" maps that could perhaps be found or quest-awarded, or perhaps purchased (at an in-game vendor).

Sort of like this: Thief map.

At least if they did add an automap - hopefully it would include a toggle to turn it off.

So, this upcoming expansion sounds pretty cool. Should be a good reason to play through again. Hopefullyl I kept my saves; in case I could restart not-from-scratch.

Looking forward to it.. :)
Sweet. I don't have the base game yet but now I can save when the inevitable GOTY edition comes out. Yay!
