I just turned on my TV and I am curently seeing live footage from the Maidan District (I hope I wrote it right) and I don't see this coming to an end very soon :/ The problem is that over 50 people died already and the government is doing little to nothing to stop this in a peaceful way.

zeffyr: It's getting worse, state of emergency is to be introduced.
avatar
robb5: Wow :( And what happens when this "state" is introduced? It is similar to martial law?
Martial law not, not really. But no one knows what is going to happen.

It seems all everyone can do is wait and see. I really hope this ends well and without many lost lives.

toxicTom: It's disgusting how the western countries (including Germany) are fuelling this conflict just because the current government is Russia-friendly and the opposition is more towards the EU and promises big business for the the western big companies.
German media are so full of anti-Russian and anti-Ukrainian-Government propaganda its really hard to get facts and to form one's own opinion.
I cannot sign this. Yes, the public opinion here in germany is distinctly pro opposition, but apart from some threats for economic sanctions whos success didn't show so far (no surprise I would say) our government did nothing. The media is also quite free, you can choose the sources you get your information from. It should be not so difficult to form your own opinion.

Maybe I'm just biased by propaganda but the main complaint seems to be the current government of the Ukraine is totally corrupt and therefore somebody else has to take over. Somebody who is not so corrupt. So they have thrown their former president into prison, the current one should follow immediately to court and prison. But that's only a dream as we all know. It won't happen.

I personally would advice free and open elections after immediate retirement of the current president.

It's a nightmare now and more people will die and all most of us can do is just watch it.

BlackDawn: We have some users from Ukraine here, would be interesting to read what they think about the issue.
I can tell you a bit from ukrainian friends that live here that they are reluctant to speak about it because it is such a nasty situation and feels so awkward. It's a lose-lose situation.

For starters their ex-president is not in jail and never has been. What were you saying about german media again?

Sorry I meant prime minister. I was only quoting from my memory which is known to be not the best one. Media is usually quite good in getting the titles right.

LiquidOxygen80: In other news, prices for mail order brides showed a record drop!
Is that your explanation for the Bangkok riots? A domino effect?

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-26236887

For Ukraine riots, I can't really say who is wrong and who is right. I just hope it doesn't become a "Russia vs EU" thing on a global level. As long as neither side is sending military aid to Ukraine...

iippo: Who's a better economic ally, Europe or Russia? That's the key issue at the heart of Ukraine's protests. Demonstrators want the government to forge closer ties with Europe and turn away from Russia.
Russia is a "better" economic ally, as in, the EU deal is utter shit and shouldn't be accepted under any circumstances. But Yanukovich is a really shit president and should be ousted and replaced with someone more sensible - obviously, not the Nazis and not Mutti's euro-babby. Nuland is right. Fuck the EU.

zeffyr: Guys, don't make immature jokes about Stalker. People are dying there, few hundred kms away from me. It looks serious and please behave so.
Lol @ the hypocritical joke police. What about, you know, Chernobyl?

tokisto: I´ve heard that neo-nazis are behind the civil uprising support, is that true?
Yes, it's true. Note that this doesn't mean the pro-Russia faction is morally superior, because there are pan-Slavic neo-Nazis on their side.
There's various flavors of fascists cropping up on both sides, AFAIK. They have a hard time staying away from anything that involves chaos and firebombs.

And who is this someone? The opposition also corrupt. This is not "Russia vs EU", this is a common struggle for power and money and tired of corruption simple folk between. Do I need to remind you that once Yanukovych gave power to the opposition? There was happiness, or as a result of Yanukovych won again?
Look at the oligarchs, if the rotten system would be in danger, they would have taken much more severe response.
Personally, I hope that the opposition wins and Putin will stop throwing billions in nowhere. But in reality billions will fly anyway, opposition or not.:(

corrupt or not they must revert changes to constitution done by yanukovych. it is never a good thing to have one guy running the country and with those changes apparently he now controls everything or almost everything. and can get even more power.
nobody sane wants ukraine to become like belarus and this is where the country was headed.

I've always found such political oxymora fascinating. It's almost like they've never actually read "Mein Kampf" or the rest of Hitler's writings/statements. If they had, they would have found out that Hitler had the most "wonderful" thoughts on Russians and Slavic people in general.

Ignorance and irrationality does seem to be a key part of groups that are built on bigotry.

Are you really think that returning to pre-2004 constitution with semi-presidential republic making Ukraine to Belarus? I am terrified when thinking about bloody presidential dictatorship in US.
And, more importantly, what's the difference as a puppet called? The Constitution of 2004 did not hindered the oligarchs much. It is doesn't matter what size of wheels in car with broken engine.
