It honestly baffles me that a company known for copy-pasting games and reusing assets couldn't just re-skin black flag, keeping the same mechanics and animations and called it a done deal. That's literally what AC Rogue was. Same game, different protagonist.

The worst thing that the game should be called is a Black Flag copy-paste. If people are actually calling it worse than Black Flag then Ubisoft have really messed up. It's not like they lack the right to reuse assets from their THEIR OWN IP and GAME.

There are MANY franchises that I'd miss and I'm surprised that you'd even say that on a site that, at least in part, is about game preservation.

Ubisoft has some of those franchises. While Assassin's creed has been milked, I really love the original Pentalogy (AC1, AC2, ACB, ACR AC3) and "I'd kill" to have it DRM-Free. I really enjoyed Watch_Dogs 1 too and the best Prince Of Persia games are, thankfully, already here.

They do indeed. If you happen to have a Ubisoft account, I would like to ask you, and anyone else that cares about Ubisoft games, to help me nag Ubisoft into releasing more games on GOG. Thank you.

As much as I support the idea, I don't have an Ubisoft account, and nor would I dare to sign up for one.

Different people have different ideas on how to maintain their capital. Some pump and dump, some see their fledgling empire as a better investment than being cast out into the wasteland with a load of gold, maybe because so much money is only worth so much capital. But my original comment was more being cynically straight faced to a facetious comment, I haven't paid too much attention to Ubi in particular other than some controversies that always seem to surround game publishers.

They made two games that I liked a lot and enjoyed, XIII (the original) and Far Cry 2. So I would be sad to see them go. I hope they could release at least Far Cry 3 here, and consider releasing more games through GOG.

Being that Assassin's Creed Black Flag is one of my favorite games of all time -- and the Age of Piracy is endlessly fascinating to me -- I'd had high hopes for Skull & Bones...

... but it looks (after the somewhat recent gameplay release) like it ran ashore long ago and will never be sea-worthy again. Too bad.

And all most of us wanted was a Black Flag 2... or a full pirate RPG.

As far as a company, I've quite enjoyed a number of of UbiSoft games over the years (AC Black Flag, Ghost Recon Wildlands, Far Cry 2, etc)... even though the recycling of systems and mechanics have made many games redundant, paint-by-numbers sequels lacking individual indentities.

Too bad the company seems to be imploding... but there's a lot of that going around lately.

Really, how hard would it be to remake Sid Meier's Pirates for yet a third time, but this time with I dunno, third person action scenes? I don't know what the kids want today.

Well, UbiSoft is lost in connected / online experiences that most don't care about (or at least don't prioritize for enjoyment). UbiSoft had all the tools for Black Flag 2 (minus story) and just simply refused to make it. How UbiSoft -- a company that loves to repackage and re-release games over-and-over again -- refused to do that with Black Flag is STRANGE. The one time players just wanted more of the same UbiSoft refused?

I'd really love to know what's happened behind-the-scenes at UbiSoft that caused this total implosion.

For me, I'll just go back to Maelstrom Engine and Gentlemen of Fortune.

(completely useless aside... as for simple ideas that need new games... Oregon Trail! Really wish -- like Sid Meier's Pirates! -- someone would update Oregon Trail with some 3rd person gameplay and more realistic graphical elements. And yes, I saw the recent remake and it's just too cartoony for my taste)
