Hey there everyone, Turntable newbie here and I am having a problem with my current turntable that I thought I would ask people about outside of the people who made my unit to see if I can solve a problem.

Here is the issue, my turntable is making a horrid buzzing noise even when it is not getting any power when plugged into my receiver's phono input. I am using an older TEAC AG-V8050 stereo receiver and while it is normal for it to make some noise, with it being an older Dolby Pro-Logic unit that predates Dolby Digital, it never makes a buzzing noise like that.

I am using a Uturn Orbit which when I initially got it, was great but the buzzing came after I upgraded my cartridge to the thing from a Grado Black to an Ortofon 2M Red. I am dealing with rather low end stuff I know but I am just in entry level here for now, but anyways I sent it back to the company and they fixed the motor since that allegedly caused the issue but to no avail. I tried the cables they sent me today and even grounding my receiver externally to a power outlet but the buzzing is still there.

I do not expect everyone to know the ins and outs of the Orbit but anyone here that breathes the record player lifestyle, have you ever encountered something like this before and if so, how can it be fixed? Uturn seems to suggest other things and I suspect it may have something to do with the tonearm wires despite the company saying otherwise.

Sounds like a ground issue. I would check to see if all the wires connected to the cartridge are still snug. Could also be that the wires, which are delicate could have been accidently torn. Also make sure your ground wire is still hooked up.

My turntable lacks the ground wire and is pregrounded apparently and I have checked the wires themselves, they SEEM connected but Uturn denies it is a wire issue when I sent it to them already for repairs.
I'll guess grounding, too. Know anybody with an outlet tester, to check the outlet itself? Something about turntables seems to make them more susceptible to poor ground, even if the rest of your system runs fine off that outlet. If it checks okay, I'd try running a wire between the chassis (outside case) of the receiver and the turn table, to put them at the same base potential.

Could also narrow it down by lugging your turntable over to a friend whose setup has a Phono input.

Hmm. I didn't know they made turntables without a ground wire. I think you're right to think there might be something wrong with the tonearm wires. Can you change the headshell out? Also what happens when you put back in the old cartridge.

Another thing you can try is try plugging in the turntable into a different outlet. Sometimes it helps to be on the same outlet as the receiver though. Also Hereforthebeer's suggestion to lug it over to a friend's place may be a good idea to try as well.
try it in a different outlet that is on a different circuit

Sadly do not have any friends that have a phono related thing. I have tried different outlets and still no avail. Even tried it without the receiver on different outlets but still buzz. This buzz ALSO happens when it is not plugged in at all.
