OK, this one is really weird. Recently (probably last few months, but could be older) someone created a giveaway. I checked the game, it looked like a nice turn-based strategy, and I considered going for it, but then ended up with a post of something along the lines of "This might be a game I might enjoy, but too much backlog. Thanks +1".

It was a game with at least one sequel if I remember correctly. A classic (its name was very familiar, and I was surprised I haven't come across it before), and the screenshot vaguely reminded me of HoMM tactical battle. And it had a short (probably one word) title.

You'd think all this would mean it'd be easy to remember. Or find. But I've been going over all the GOG games by genre and I can. not. locate. it.

Now I could be wrong about one of the points above. It could be more of a turn based RPG and not a strategy. Or it could be recent and not classic. Or it could be sequelless (but there definitely was a giveaway, and I definitely made a post). And definitely on GOG.

I'm honestly surprised I haven't found it. The reason I'm asking is because with the new "the game on your wishlist is discounted" emails I thought I'll finally organize my wishlist and maybe buy a few more games next sale.

I'm not sure of the game, but I'll start with the obvious and ask have you looked all the way back in "Topics I've participated in" on the community page? It goes back quite a ways for me, but I know you're pretty active so in a few months it might have been pushed out already.
Braveland?

Yes, it's not there.
King's Bounty? It had tons of sequels, it looks like HoMM, though it has slightly less strategy elements, and slightly more RPG elements.

Etherlords (or Etherlords 2), perhaps? It has a sequel, is a turn-based strategy, has a screenshot that's vaguely reminiscent of HoMM's battles, and it seems like one of those games that could easily fall into the cracks when you're looking for it.
Maybe Fantasy Wars?
Imperialism?

yogsloth: Braveland?
No... it was more "serious"

No... I got most King Bounty games.

Etherlords? I recommend it as well, if that was it.
If it was a classic, then maybe it is Fantasy General. Or maybe, Age of Wonders.

Eador maybe?

edit: forgot the link.

ps. Not really a classic, but by looking at the graphics you could mistake it for a classic. And not really a sequel rather than a remake.

Oddly it fits most criteria... but no.
Stalking your posting history, I'll say Disciples: Sacred Lands Gold
