doctorsinister: Negative rep does not allow people to post links is a big problem.

skeletonbow: It's irritating but you can work around it by putting your URLs within forum quotes as if they're part of a reply to someone else's post, it is a loophole in the forum software.
Thanks for letting me know.

Gersen: I don't think it's really peoples who want to be exempted from these rules or even think that said rules are bad per se. I see it more as peoples who are worried at how you will enforce said rules.

I think a lot of peoples have been burned multiple times by some moderators that tend to moderate based on their own bias and feelings rather than on the actual rules themselves; as in being over-zealous against those they disagree with while being too lenient toward those with which their opinions aligns.

Personally I am in a "wait and see" mode and while I can understand why some are concerned I still think it's too early to draw any "definitive" conclusion like the one Emob78 sadly did.

I do however think oversimplifying those concerns as being from peoples refusing all sort of moderation or peoples who want to be free to post hate speech is not really a good idea and will do nothing to help quench said concerns.

fables22: I don't know if it's just me or something but aren't you people getting a bit tired of the never-ending "we're just going in circles" discussions about all of this?
Watch this vid by CPG Grey (<3 <3) and it totes makes sense

edit: like literally, it blew my mind and I look at the internet silly so much differently.

doctorsinister: What was the point of hiring a "community specialist" by Gog in the first place if they can't make forum users happy ????

Gog advertised for the "community specialist" position so much, gave people hope that they would hire someone from within the community, asked people to send their resumes.......only to hire someone who was already in Poland and was never part of the Gog forum.

Fables said that rep means nothing in the long run....they why not just get rid of it, OR atleast allow the users to post links to youtube etc if they are in the negative rep due to troll abuse.

Negative rep does not allow people to post links is a big problem.
You seem to know an awful lot about the hiring process and about me :) I actually moved to Poland AFTER I'd already started the job :)

I'm a Slavic language speaker by birth so I find it super easy to understand, but not so easy to speak. So...yea, I"m trying, but it'll be a journey.

Ah, that would help. Good luck with the speaking.

Well, I mean, to be fair, he actually has somewhat of a point. As much as I and others have appreciated your work here, it still would've been very nice to see somebody who's actually FROM the community be a community manager as opposed to an "outsider" so to speak, since someone from here would have a much more accurate read on the forum culture.
Of course, there's issues with that choice since the person could be one of many biased individuals we have here and it's much more likely that an outsider would be more impartial, plus the fact that the forum is actually just a tiny sliver of the CM's job, but still.

I was gonna say - I'd 100% agree with you if forum was the sole purpose of the post. But it's not and a much larger portion of the job is something that just "someone from within the community" couldn't do as it requires fairly specific experience and knowledge. It's mostly down to the fact that the community here on the forum translate "community" within the post as this community only, where in actual fact it also involves many other communities, even communities outside of GOG and sometimes not even strictly gaming ones. If that makes sense.

Right. Basically you're the PR person or whathaveyou, correct?

fables22: If that makes sense.
Yes, it does. I can easily relate that to something in another community, but won't because that would derail the topic... and that's bad.
