groze: Like what the title says. Do you prefer Titan Quest or Grim Dawn? Personally, as someone who got both of them at roughly the same time, and as an old Diablero who loves ARPGs, I prefer Grim Dawn for the upgrades and all that jazz it brings over Titan Quest; but what are the opinions overall? I understand Titan Quest has a very loyal fanbase that never moved on to Grim Dawn, why is that? Is the Ancient Greek/Ancient World that much of a deal breaker? Or are you afraid of the "spiritual successor" moniker all that much? No money to spend on Grim Dawn? Just name the reasons why you prefer one over the other, basically.
Hmmm I lean towards Grim Dawn myself even though it's made by (mostly) the same people who developed Titan Quest simply because I prefer the dark fantasy world they created :D
"ARPG: Click on stuff, and it dies."
i like both, though the ancient times setting of titan quest is preferable for me. my main issue with grim dawn right now is the fact that they're still actively working on it, releasing content, and balancing gameplay. hell, they have an expansion with a new class coming out soon. i played grim dawn for about 10 hours last spring (quite literally a year ago) and i felt like my character was nerfed mid game due to an update. whether or not it actually was, i don't know.

both games are great though, can't go wrong.

The best and most satisfying game format ever. :P

Well, I am wondering why it is these two in particular? There are a lot of very good arpgs on here and elsewhere. Tq is pretty good, quite long and has some variance. Gd I have only been through once, and again pretty good. I would personally get both, but if I had to, TQ at the moment. GD is currently on the dlc mode (crucible recently) so save money and get the collectors edition in some time.
Also note, other than the other games, there are a load of mods out the for Diablo 1/2 and TQ, I currently don't know of any for GD.

It is about one game vs the other, not about the whole genre. It is interesting topic for people, who are indecisive about which game of the 2 or 3 is better to try, which is longer, which has more loot, etc. There could be topic :"Titan Quest vs Viktor Vran" or "Grim Dawn vs Van Helsing". The point is to compare two games out of many.

So point 2 is effective then. TQ is currently "better" as its been around for ages, there is no plans to dlc it or develop further, and there a ton on of mods for it. Without specific quantifiable measures, comparison is meaningless. For ex. TQ is 17.99, GD is 19.99, is two quid significant to make TQ better than GD?

Jonni: Is there a reason why Path of Exile is excluded from this dicussion?
This is just a wild guess: TQ and GD were made by the same people.
Played and have Titan Quest, wishlisted and watched Grim Dawn gameplay.

My opinion is:
- if your time is limited(you have a job) - Titan Quest.
- if take a week off to submerge into (well balanced) grinding - Grim Dawn.

The difference is like stock "Call of Pripyat" vs the "Misery" mod.
And the winner is:

DIABLO 2!

Thank you for playing! :D
Grim Dawn is too unrelentingly grim for my taste---beyond grim and into just plain gross in parts---but it does have guns! I really like the Devotion system as well.

However, after 10 years I found myself happy to return to TQ, and I've got a new character I've worked up to a Legendary-level playthrough. I finished one Grim Dawn playthrough and haven't yet been drawn to go back to experiment with a different build or anything.

Story-wise, Grim Dawn has the more interesting/well-written NPCs and side stories (dark though they be). There's one that's told entirely through dropped notes in one of the frozen areas that still gives me the creeps. I think that's my problem with GD, it succeeds too well at being depressing.
I'm actually going to change my answer. Titan Quest is better in the early game, but drags through the middle, and the bosses are a bit too finicky for some builds.

Which game did I enjoy more messing around on alts and early game? TQ.

Which game will I more likely go back to? GD.
