Out of the current list, played Two Worlds (review) and Ascension to the Throne (review), plus The Witcher, but in that case, since I played the Enhanced Edition (review), if you count it as somewhat different then it'd go under 2008.

I'm counting the original released version of The Witcher here. I linked it to the Enhanced Edition because it's the only version available to buy.

Speaking of it, I played The Witcher for the first time 2 or 3 years ago. I had lots of people telling me that I should go straight to 3, because not only it's the better game but also because I wouldn't be missing much. I'm so glad I ignored their recommendation.

I loved Witcher 1. It's a rough game, no doubt, but it there's just something special about it that I cannot really describe it. And by the time I got to 3, I was so much more invested in the world and the characters than I would have been, had I skipped 1 and 2.

So yeah, I understand that people tend to dismiss it, but I truly believe that if they have the patience and the will to give it a chance, they'll be in for a great time.
A few other entries :

- Sam & Max: Beyond Time and Space (original version)
- Übersoldier II
- Driver : Parallel Lines
- Broken Sword : The Angel of Death

Some more, at a quick look, now sorting by highest rated by whatever the new aggregate mobyscore is. Damn what crap they did with that site... Anyway, those above 8.0 at the moment:

A Tale of Two Kingdoms
Enemy Territory: Quake Wars
The Fish Fillets II
Gemsweeper
Hurrican
Knytt Stories
Lara Croft: Tomb Raider - Anniversary
The Lord of the Rings Online: Shadows of Angmar
Mia's Big Adventure Collection: The Bugaboo Bugs
Episodes 3-6 of Sam & Max Save the World, and the full bundle I guess
Sam & Max: Season Two - Episode 1: Ice Station Santa
TAGAP: The Apocalyptic Game About Penguins
Trilby: The Art of Theft
What Makes You Tick?

Maybe:
Gears of War (PC version, with some differences from the X360 one of 2006)

Expansions:
Anno 1701: The Sunken Dragon
The Elder Scrolls IV: Shivering Isles
Galactic Civilizations II: Dark Avatar
Medieval II: Total War - Kingdoms
Neverwinter Nights 2: Mask of the Betrayer

I added Sam & Max: Beyond Time and Space, thanks.

As for the others:
- Übersoldier II seems to have been released in 2008. Maybe it was released in Russia in 2007?

- Driver : Parallel Lines was originally released in 2006 for consoles. Only the PC version was 2007. Since I consider the original release data, independently of the platform, I didn't list it.

- Broken Sword : The Angel of Death this one seems to be from 2006 too.

Your'e right for Übersoldier II, but for Driver and BS, I trusted GOG release data base as 2007...
I think I've only played Shadow of Chernobyl and The Witcher from this list.
Shadow of Chernobyl is a great game, maybe the best shooter I've ever played. But I don't think I can ever play it again, somehow would feel strange given the real war in Ukraine.
The Witcher is also fine, but tbh I didn't like the combat system at all. Those sex cards were a nice idea though.
After I've finished my game from 2006, I will travel on to the next year. I will play Penumbra (Penumbra Overture to be more specific). Survival horror isn't really my genre, so I'm curious how I'll like it and if I can make it to the end.

World in Conflict is on the list which I loved back in the day. but I tried to play it shortly after Russia invaded Ukraine and just could not stomach it, for similar reason you mentioned about STALKER.
Added the missing ones.

Tomb Raider: Anniversary was already on the list.
Gears of War is a game from 2006. The PC version is the same but with a few more levels added in.

Thank you.

GOG not always list the very original release date for the games. For Driver: PL they might be considering the PC version. For BS, it's possible that they're considering the NA release date, which is 13 February 2007.

Yeah, I think is the worst mechanic in the game, especially compared to more modern ones.

Isn't there mods to make this better though? I think I saw some.

I haven't played the later Witcher games yet, don't know if their combat system is really better, my impression is they're more like action games in a way...so also not that great for an rpg fan.
But I suppose the strength of the Witcher games lies more in general atmosphere, the characters and the story, the combat isn't all that important.
Back in 2007 I played mostly freeware games. Most of your games on the list are some of the best freeware releases of that year. I can wholeheartedly recommend TAGAP: The Apocalyptic Game About Penguins (an amazing 2D shooter that even had two sequels), Hurrican (a Turrican remake), A Tale of Two Kingdoms (a Sierra style adventure game which got a commercial release later) and Trilby: The Art of Theft (a platform stealth game made with the AGS engine).
