Yeah, I remember that when I played it, I used guns as a last resort. Biting and slashing was my favourite way of doing things.

That's annoying as hell. I hate when games do this.

So, I've finished Splinter Cell. Well, the original game at least, since there are some bonus missions in the PC version (from what I understand, the PC/Xbox version have a set of bonus missions while the PS2 version has a completely different unique mission).

My opinion on it definitely improved as I got further into the game, and I really started to enjoy it by the end of the Kalinatek mission, since I was finally used to the mechanics and the strategies you can use. Usually I try and avoid any notice entirely in stealth games, but I found myself shooting the lights out a lot and taking advantage of the darkness to get by even if the guards noticed. The missions also start to give you more options.

I don't have many complaints with the game. The forced gunfights don't really work. Your enemies will shoot and kill you with ease, but you need to carefully aim and wait just to hit them once. They just feel unbalanced and largely luck based.

Other than that and the occasional bugs and glitchy guard behaviour (usually after they've given up looking for you) I don't have much else to complain about. I guess I'm a fan. Definitely planning to play the later games.

Probably won't be starting Serious Sam for a while. I'll be pretty busy for the first half of June, but I'll probably play through it after that.

I guess they're in the game to make the scenarios more intense. They probably expected you to use mines and grenades to even the odds, but the guards always know where you are and their weapons are way more accurate than yours. It reminds me of Metal Gear Solid actually, which also has a bunch of forced shootouts.
I actually found a used copy of the PC collection with the first four games for fairly cheap, so I should be able to play all of those as long as I can get them working reliably (with the help of the PC gaming wiki, probably), even the dreaded Double Agent PC port. I guess I'll pick up Conviction and Blacklist in some form once I've played those.

Chaos Theory, if I'm not mistaken works well out of the box. The only thing you need to do is change the resolution on an ini file.

Double Agent also works, but the game itself is just a bad port. You can finish it, but expect to find some game breaking bugs sometimes.

I've completed BloodRayne: Terminal Cut. Took me several times to defeat the final boss Beliar. Can't believe how easy it was once I've figured out the right strategy. And also can't believe how obvious that strategy was (and still many people probably won't think of it).

Have to say that I really liked the game. The story got really crazy in the end, very trash-movie-like.

Still not a fan of not being able to save within the levels. But the difficulty was good (I played on normal difficulty) and the levels quite short and so even me (who is not really good at action games) was able to complete it without a lot of problems.

Funny because there are 3 live action movies based on BloodRayne. All directed by the infamous Uwe Boll.
I believe I watched the first one, but don't remember anything of it.

I really thought about watching them. But it seems at least the first one has hardly anything to do with the game. Some strange fantasy/middle-age setting instead of World War 2.

I believe the series are supposed to span multiple eras. Aren't the second game based on modern time?

I don't know yet. Will probably play it when the time machine reaches the release year.

It is. According to its wiki: "it takes place 60 and 70 years later in a contemporary 2000s setting."

Forgot to write that I finished Vice City once again.

The most memorable thing from this playthrough: I found a taxi without the taxi sign on its roof.

I found my old UT2003. Even though it came across as slightly unfinished, the graphics were good for the time and it introduced ragdoll physics where the bodies would flop around.

It also had a stats tracker where it would upload them to a website.
