Another couple of games that, according to uncle google, were released in 1999:
SimCity 3000 and Mobil 1 Rally Championship.

Edit: Also Warzone 2100 (free and open source) and Star Trek: Birth of the Federation.

Matewis: This thread is a sign, a sign for me to finally finish Caesar 3. I only have one more campaign level to finish, and come hell of high water I'll do it in November!

ConsulCaesar: I am currently playing Age of Wonders so I can join this time travel expedition!

PetrusOctavianus: I'm currently playing Age of Wonders myself; a brilliant user-made map called Illuminara.
Added you 3 to the op. Have fun!

morolf: Commandos ammo pack should refer to Commandos: Beyond the call of duty (the expansion, the original Commandos was already released in summer 1998).
Changed it to Commandos: Beyond the Call of Duty. Thanks.

ProzacFreak: Does the OP make one of these threads every week, month?

I love this one.
It makes me feel as old as dirt, but talking about these gems is a blast.
The user ciemnogrodzianin was the one who came up with this idea. The first 2 years (1995 & 1996) ran for 1 month each, however from 1997 onwards it was decided that each year would run for 2 months, so people would have more time to finish th games.

I still have my boxed copy. Wonder if I can get it running under wine...

Thank you, bluethief.
No need to thank me, it's a pleasure to continue these travels.
All thanks should go to you for having this idea in the first place :).
Hello everyone!

The year 1999 includes plenty of (good) games. However, for me it would be only a revisit for the majority of them. Many are still recommendable though, such as "Myst Masterpiece Edition", "Outcast", "Indiana Jones and the Infernal Machine", "Independence War Deluxe", "Pharao & Cleopatra" and "The Longest Journey" to name just a few.
I also have fond memories of "Corsairs Gold" ("Der Korsar" in German) from only a couple of years ago. It has a very atmospheric presentation, but suffers from technical issues, especially during the boarding and land battles.

I guess for 1999 I am choosing a somewhat obscure and not so well known game, which is considerably shorter, because I have two other larger games running:
- "Pro 18 World Tour Golf" (Psygnosis' & Intelligent Games' foray into the golf simulations)

I am going to play the Playstation 1 version of which I got a copy, recently around the time the three "Links" golf games have been (re-)released here on GOG.com.
Mechanically, it is quite similar to the Links series.

Have fun everyone!
And thanks again to ciemnogrodzianin for the original thread idea and to bluethief for continuing them!

Kind regards,
foxgog

so many memories with most of these warez!
It is time to reward the authors by purchasing their games now that the time of education has passed. ;-)
Reassure me, if I buy these old games on GOG, the money is going well in the pockets of the authors of these old games, right? (at least a part yes?)

Most likely not. Many of the studios, and even publishers, that made/published these games, don't exist anymore. So in these cases, the ones getting the money are the new owners.
I fired up SC3000 to play a bit. I think I should rename my town to "the home of toxic clouds" or something like that.

Looks like you have the Tommy Chong mod installed.

bluethief: Destination: 1999 | the year of System Shock 2, STAR WARS Episode I: Racer, Kingpin: Life of Crime

Darkstone
Gabriel Knight 3: Blood of the Sacred, Blood of the Damned
Gorky 17
• Half-Life: Opposing Force
Septerra Core: Legacy of the Creator
The Longest Journey
Hey all *waves* :)

Soooooo many nice games....I think i'll add the ones above. Let's see:

Darkstone - (replaying) - I have played this one a few times ever since I had a boxed PC copy long ago. It has it's flaws, but some things(like the titular song and intro video) always make me come back for more every now and then.

Gabriel Knight 3 - (replaying) - Yeah, it has the silly cat hair moustache puzzle and other flaws, but I like this one as well.

Gorky 17 - (playing) - I played a bit of this one loooooong ago when I bought it on GOG, but forgot to go back to it. Maybe this time I can beat it?

Half Life: Opposing Force - (replaying) - A nice expansion to a classic FPS that i've beaten a few times over....will be fun to play it once more.

Septerra Core - (playing) - Love this final fantasy looking RPG...though i've never beat it(story of my life with a number of games :D). Will try to do so this time.

The Longest Journey - (playing) - I played and beat(and loved) the sequel, Dreamfall, way before I even knew of this game. Now I hope to finish the first game in the series, and see how it stacks up against it's sequel.

Might add more later, after I complete some of the above......also would've also added System Shock 2, but I recently beat it yet again(for the nth time since first getting it) so i'm giving it a bit of a break. :)

Let's see.....the first game I will be (re)playing will be Half Life: Opposing Force

And what better way to start off than with some theme music that kicks major posterior :)
(note: some light swearing and such in the above link)
****Gotta go to the store for a bit, but when I get back I will be posting some pics/trivia/initial thoughts/etc****

Game Update

=-=-=-=-=

This expansion for the classic FPS Half Life was fun to get/play back in the day(iirc I still have the original box/manuals somewhere).......from the new training level(s), to the new weapons/enemies. Of course, (imo) some unofficial campaigns(like They Hunger and Poke646) were a bit better in some ways, but I still wax nostalgic over the official expansions & I will replay them every now and then when the mood strikes me.

Tips

Some might need to check the box for Raw Mouse Input in the options, else turning the view with the mouse will act weird/buggy.

Play through the training bits if you never did so, as they differ entirely from the ones in the original game.
(the Blue Shift training differs as well, and is also somewhat fun to play)

Besides searching every corner for hidden things, ammo, etc, noclipping outside the bounds of the area can sometimes be fun(make sure to save first, in case of bugs/etc).

Screens

1. I get some awesomely cliché free instruction from Major Payne before being told to head out to training.
(which, much to my dismay, does NOT involve trains)

2. A. Shepard journal entry 1: "I spotted this strange man in blue looking down at the courtyard(likely at me, no doubt) today. What does it all mean? Soon I will figure it all out"

3. So I got to training and found this....ok then: *Shepard walks onto the target square while whistling*

4. After the flaming water filled tunnel, the dangling exposed wiring, and the steam pipes.....now my vision has gone green?!? Oh wait, it's just the nite-vision....phew!

5. Near the end of the training I find out the most risky way to open a door from Pvt. Expendable here.
