Dear forum readers and contributors,

I doubt I'm the only one who noticed this. When someone replies to a thread you participated to, there's no notification except if it's a reply to one of your posts.

The only reliable way I found to see if there are updates is to check the "Topics I've participated in" and click "show more" until all threads are displayed, then look at the ones displaying in white color.

If only updated threads would go back to the top of the list upon update, that would be a huge plus !
IMO, this is a minor problem. Every time GOG "fixes" their forum, something else breaks, and I'd rather handle this than whatever else could happen afterwards.

Not that I don't want it fixed, mind you; I just fear they'll simply scrap the forum altogether instead.
Been here a while and they've always been iffy, I really don't care and even if I did, like P1na said, it's minor.

Let them fix the rep bullshit, and the PM bullshit, the update stuff and then maybe consider this.

There's a few proper forum software out there that works. GOG really need to look at proper forum software this software that GOG uses should go the road of the dodo and go extinct.

I'm not sure what you mean. The way you describe it is the way it has always worked, and I don't really see how it could be otherwise. I sure wouldn't want a notification every time somebody made a post in a thread that I happened to post in once, unless they are specifically replying to me. Otherwise, I'd be swamped with notifications. Some of the still active threads here are years old, and still have several new posts every day.
At the top of the webpage to the right, between "SUPPORT" & the shopping cart icon, hover the pointer over "ACCOUNT", select "FORUM REPLIES" from the drop down menu, you will be taken to the "My posts" page, any white white highlighted entry will have new replies that you have not viewed yet. Yes, I agree it's not the most intuitive of processes, but it does serve the purpose once you know of it.
Thread Update Notifications Don't Work Properly
Correct.
As far as I know, this is working as intended. There are probably better ways of handling it, but if they were going to go on a forum-software-fixing spree -- and assuming they could be trusted to not make things worse in the process -- I'd rather they fixed some of the actually broken things others have already mentioned.

There's also a "My Posts" link at the top of every forum page (apart from the main 'Community' page), as well as a link to all one's Question topics.

This works only for explicit replies to one of your posts. Sometimes people just add a post to a thread, your method doesn't work in that case.

If you ever post here which is my oldest thread, I won't be notified, and it won't even show up in my "Forum replies" section. Unless you explicitly click reply on one of my posts, that is.

We can test this if you want, I won't cheat and tell you if it worked. According to what you said, the thread should appear in my forum replies section without any notification...

I hear you. There should rather be a way to opt in/out of notifications per thread, as many forum software permit.

Maybe you're going to tell me there's a favourite topics section for this, but as of now, there's no notification when new posts appear there either.

As I told, if only threads were classified by last update time rather than creation time, even without notification, that would help keeping track.

Of course, as other posters said, that should not come at the price of breaking what currently works however.

So you're claiming that I was just imagining the listings that were highlighted white on the "My posts" page even though they weren't necessarily a posting the quoted one of my previous responses in the same thread?... Right... 8-|
I'm not exactly claiming this. What you're saying can happen for recent threads that were inside your "My posts" page, but they would be here anyway. Now if the thread disappears from the page and someone posts without clicking "Reply" on one of your posts, it won't get back. That's my claim.
I didn't know anything in this forum worked properly.
