rtcvb32: As i said, decapping... using acid to remove the outer plastic to directly access/look over the chip.

I looked this over back when they were talking about the 6502 and reverse engineering it for perfect emulation and what the effective undocumented instructions were (some useful and some not).
now we are talking .. the 6502, one of the most important chips of all computer (gaming) history

have to confess, ofcoz i love the 6581/8580 even a bit more!! :D
