Hrm... "aliens" leaves a pretty wide berth... :) I already own the Alien Breed trilogy, Alien Shooter trilogy, AvP 2000, the new AvP, the entire X-COM series, Prey, and probably a few others I forget, so I hope it's something exciting that I don't already own at least. Even if it is one of these though, it's always nice to get more games on GOG and help more people to be less reliant on other distribution platforms!

I'm going to take a guess here... I'm going to go with "Prey" ... just because.

Prey would be top because it's a good game and it's not even available on Steam anymore (afaik), but Wikipedia claims 2K as publisher, so unless 3DRealms bought the pub. rights or somebody else did, I don't think it will show up next week, sadly.

Yeah, it's a great game and would be a nice addition to the GOGalogue. My buddy brought over the demo years ago when it first came out and I was blown away by the graphics quality and gameplay and the whole storyline and interaction. Plus I'm a huge fan of Art Bell and he did a cameo in the game and my buddy knew that so thought I'd dig it. :) I finished the demo and wanted more but the PC I played it on was not mine and mine wasn't able to handle it at the time. Several years later I found the game in a bargain bin on DVD for like $5 or so and grabbed it. I've installed it maybe twice since then and played it about as far as I did in the original demo, but haven't had a chance to dig right in and make a run through the whole game yet. I should do that some time though, and I believe it should work with Windows 7 still just fine. I would be tempted to buy it on sale if it showed up on GOG though just to avoid having to use the DVD drive. :)
I too played the Prey demo. At the time it was an oft-delayed and very much hyped game that was probably going to have problems living up to that hype.

After playing the demo, I loved it. The character's thoughts spoken outloud, the atmosphere, the horror of just exactly what was happening on that ship in the opening moments... all of it. And I never bought the damn game. To this day I'm not sure why, but if this is the release here I hope it's as nerve-wrackingly tense and as beautiful graphically as I remember.

*edit - graphicly? Really?

I'll go with either Alien Legacy or Alien Carnage, if only just because we already have Sierra and Apogee onboard. Plus, they're both very nice oldies.

Deep inside my heart, I wish it was XCOM though, but I have the feeling that's not gonna happen :(

It really is a great graphics experience for the timeframe, and easy to get absorbed into. It reminds me of a bunch of other games such as a bit of a mixture of Halo, Soul Reaver, AvP, but it was it's own thing. I agree, the opening sequence is very powerful to kickstart the story, and that followed by the Art Bell radio broadcast was just epic. If I remember correctly it supports 2560x1600 resolution also and that makes it shine even today. I probably would have played it in the last year if I had a working DVD drive but I've went for about a year without one. :) Kind of funny... I just bought one online a few days ago, and a friend came back from a trip to Toronto and told me he bought me a present - a DVD writer out of the blue, so now I have two of them LOL. Good time to dust off some old DVD/CD games now! :)

Yeah, it would be awesome to have the XCOM series on GOG, but they're probably selling like hotcakes on Steam etc. right now due to the popularity of the most recent title and all the collection bundles. I bought mine that way back in Nov and got the entire XCOM series including the new game for $10 which was too hard to pass up. Doesn't have the expansion for the new game as it wasn't out at the time IIRC, but it has the entire rest of the series. Would be nice to see the games preserved here even if it's just the original few games for now. I played 70 hours of XCOM:UFO Defense since then and had a blast. Still need to get back into that and complete the game before moving up through the series. :)

To play the party pooper a bit: the nostalgia is mostly due to the skill of the demo maker. The intro scene was brilliant with a lot of easter eggs. The game itself however was one step below "meh".

Enemies lacked variety, combat was mostly boring, the main character was a tool - honestly, the guy was a complete idiot and whiner even by the low standards of shooters :-), pacing was bad, writing and dialogue were atrocious ("kill me, kill meeee").

The riddles on the other hand were nominally good but suffered from the fact that they had few clear indicators about goals or mechanisms. As a result the good riddle design morphed quickly into "doing random stuff until something clicks".

In all, a highly polished but ultimately annoying gameplay. Roughly in the vicinity of Far Cry 2 quality-wise but far from a classic.
Aliens and history? Must be Doctor Who: Dalek Attack!
(I know, I know, it's mostly wishful thinking :)

I like this game, but would rather see it's sequel (Weird War) here. :p
