isn't hexen bethesda's?
Hexen is more or less the best FPS ever made, although a bit hard now and then.
I highly recommend you guys playing it with the Doomsday Engine and getting/activating the hires texture pack (not the 3D enemy models) for it. It's looking and playing awesome this way in HD and widescreen with mouselook on and disabled autoaim.

Strange, I neither heard of it nor found this information on the German or English Wikipedia.
It's owned by Activision/Blizzard from what I gathered, which doesn't make it any better.

oh yeah, they don't actually own raven, but they own Id and everything that was published under it, including heretic, hexen, return to castle wolfenstein and whatever else raven made with id

either way i don't see raven games coming here anytime soon :)

I understand.
Well, too bad. Seems as those rockin' games will be sold less and pirated more then (not by me, I don't pirate and already have them anyway).

According to Hexen's Steam page, it's published by id. And we know who owns id.

Does that mean ZeniMax Media also owns the licence for Heretic: Shadow of the Serpent Riders?

Or does Raven Software retain it?

Unfortunately, Zenimax once again.

If the hint is for Hexen... maybe not as unfortunate as previously assumed? ^_^

Then again they did remove Fallout 1+2 & T... however I'm not aware of exactly why that occurred so perhaps that event won't bar future dealings? (I'm hoping it won't.)

It's unfortunate, because Bethesda is strictly Steam-only. They might sell their games in other digital places, but you won't be able to play their games without having an account on Steam.

As for the Fallout games, they didn't exactly remove them. Interplay's license expired and they had to be removed from sale, as it also happened on all other digital stores (GamersGate, Dotemu, Desura and, hell, even Steam.)

I don't know why people say Bethseda is strictly Steam only... as only there new games from the past few years has required steam (Skyrim, Dishonored, Fallout New Vegas... I don't think ESO does though). I think it's more to do with Steam offering them all the features that that they want to include in there new games (achievements, auto patching, mods ect) and is the best service at doing just that rather than DRM or anything else. A reason GOG really needs to step up it's game in this regard as they can do the same without DRM.

Bethseda has never really been a strong DRM supporter... they have said in old interviews before they pretty much do the minimal DRM like a DVD check such as Fallout 3 and Oblivion did.

As far as the old fallouts, I don't even think Steam is selling them again yet... and there signed with Bethseda... it's very possible that GOG and Bethseda have reached some sort of deal for there old games.

SpellSword: Raven made an exclusive publishing deal with Activision and was subsequently acquired by them.
Wikipedia implies that Activision currently holds Raven Software's licences.

Perhaps since Id Software's engines are being used those games must also involve ZeniMax Media in the negotiation?
- Heretic (Doom Engine)
- Hexen (Doom Engine)
- Heretic 2 (Quake 2 Engine)
- Hexen 2 (Quake Engine)
- Soldier of Fortune (Quake 2 Engine)
- Soldier of Fortune II: Double Helix (Quake III: Team Arena engine)
- Wolfenstein 2009 (Doom 3 engine + It's id Software's Wolfenstein IP)
- Quake 4 (Doom 3 engine + It's id Software's Quake IP)
- Star Wars Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast (Quake III: Team Arena engine)
- Star Wars Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy (Quake III: Team Arena engine)
- Star Trek: Voyager – Elite Force (Quake III Arena engine)

Even if that is the case perhaps there is hope for other Ravensoft titles that don't use Id Software resources:
- (Apparently ShadowCaster engine's was written by id Software's John Carmack so there may be some trouble there... or not?)
- (The engine, by Carl Stika, was nicknamed STEAM)
- Take No Prisoners (Vampire Engine)
- Mageslayer (Vampire Engine)
- Necrodome (Vampire Engine)
- X-Men Origins: Wolverine (Unreal Engine 3)
- Singularity (Unreal Engine 3)

Because they are. Every single game (old or new) available digitally on other stores requires a Steam account. Morrowind? Steam. Call of Cthulhu? Steam. Oblivion? Steam. Fallout 3? Steam. Hell, even Doom, Heretic and Hexen require Steam at least to download. What kind of autopatching is even necessary for freaking Doom? And yet, they won't provide a standalone installer. Nope, you have to download it through Steam. When they feel like making even a single game available without the use of Steam, I will consider retracting the Steam-only label. For now though, it will remain.

SpellSword: snip
I'm not saying anything about Raven's other games; only Heretic and Hexen. Regardless of what Wikipedia says, the games are published by id on Steam and not by Activision. Whether id signed a deal with Activision, there is only thing to assume; those games won't come on GOG without Bethesda.
