I paid $49.99 (plus s/h) for Mean Streets (1989) the other day. Worth every penny. ;-p

It's all relative but If something can provide several hours of enjoyment then some of the price tags are nothing to shake a stick at. Today, more often than not, paying full price for a game is a hard pill to swallow. I say wait a bit and the prices will fall to your favored price point.

Anywho, back to my rum.

OneFiercePuppy: But the dumb play if you want to have good games down the road, unfortunately. Sale culture is why big studios are so resistant to let go of in-game microtransactions, pay-to-win mechanics, and season passes. Sure, the sociopathic nature of corporate greed is why they came up with those ideas in the first place but if they can't pay programmers, we don't get games. Ain't nobody gonna make a KOTOR3 for $9 a pop.

If you're a collection junkie I get it, no sense spending $50 a title if you "need" to have 1500 games in your library. But I paid $70 for QfG2 on release day - that's about $130 in today's dollars. Worth every penny ^_^
Note that in my earlier post I said I tend to wait for sales. I don't always. I do understand the argument that further games won't get made if they don't sell well on release. But I refuse to shell out money just because it's a shiny new release. It needs to be worth the dollars in my eyes. Few day 1 releases are to me, unfortunately.

Minuteworld: close to 100$ for a pc game is ridiculous tbph
If $60 is close to $100 then my dink is close to a foot long.

In all seriousness, the price points feel about the same as they were way back in the early / mid-90s when I first started buying games at any sort of volume. "AAA" games were often in the $30-$45 range back then, which inflates to roughly $50-$65 these days. Nothing new going on that I see, at least with the base game prices.

In today's marketplace, if you don't like the $60 price tag then simply wait about 6 months. Or wait 24 months and get the GOTY version for a better deal: lower price and much or all of the DLC included. And most of the bugs worked out. And probably a mod scene fixing the rest of the bugs.
With subtitles please :-)
Ow! right in the poverty.

What other hobbies do you have? lazing around in your backyard? wait, no, even keeping a backyard to begin with is probably more expensive than gaming. Lazing around on your neighbor's backyard?

Reminds me of an official poster for a series my daughter loved, whose comments area was filled with complains like "$20 is still too high!", "these prices are insane!" and so on. So I kindly posted a link to a sale going on a photography blog I frequented, where myriad people were gushing over the opportunity to acquire a small-ish print from a relatively famous photographer for a mere $200.

Hell, I even started gaming again because of its price; buying photography lenses was getting too expensive and needed a cheaper hobby. Now that mainstream film has been discontinued and the cinema fad drove the prices of equipment upwards... ugh.

Even the guy I know into mountain climbing spends more than I do on his hobby, in spite of having so many friends in the industry he gets practically everything with a 90% discount, and don't get me started on my younger brother and his cars.

An offer you can't refuse...
Actual context would be nice. Which games are you talking about? Most prices on the store page are actually much better than Steam's, and most of the remaining ones price-matched. I searched through a heap of them and the only ones I managed to find more expensive here so far are Battletech and Surviving Mars.

i'd say there is a general tendency of gog to jack up prices since 2014, maybe even earlier
