Am I to assume I'm the only one here that owns Faces of Death on DVD? :P

Probably not. But I have to wonder why you do. From what I've heard the only parts that aren't rubbish are the bits of real violence and death they snuck in there. And who'd want to watch those bits?
avatar
morolf: So you're one of those people who watch ISIS beheading videos or Mexican cartel members cutting people's limbs off with chainsaws?
Thankfully no. Most of the worst stuff I've seen I found by accident. And I'm just about smart enough to not click on those by mistake :p
avatar
tinyE: Calls himself a "free speech activist", tells people would they should and should not be watching. :P
When did I say either of those things?
avatar
tinyE: Well there was the movie that as soon as you watched it you died, but I thought it sucked. And the sequel wasn't any better.
I thought the third one was pretty good.

I wasn't talking about you. :P
Sorry about the mix up there.

You know, after seeing real life death and violence, I find that I don't care for it in movies whatsoever. I lament that the last PG rated film to win the Oscar for best movie was "Driving Miss Daisy". That was in 1989. I am beyond sick of superhero movies, zombie movies, and movies with constant violence/explosion/profanity. These days I mostly watch old "Rifleman" episodes on Amazon.

If you are into that sort of violence and death thing, observe the video of Budd Dwyer committing suicide on television. Words cannot describe how sad and uneasy I felt the first time I saw it. I have no desire to ever watch it again.

Yeah, I saw it, and it made me sick as hell.
I know a lot of people are going to say I'm splitting hairs here, but I'm of the opinion that there is a HUUGE difference between fake violence (which the original Faces of Death is) and the Bud Dwyer vid, or any one of millions of real life vid like it online.

I can sit around and watch Hostel over and over and not bat an eye, but I had to stop watching the nightly news because I just couldn't stomach it.

I'm glad it had the same effect on you as it did on me. If you'd said you didn't feel anything after watching a man commit suicide, I'd wonder if you had a pulse or not.

Now movie violence IS different, like you mentioned. Because it's all corn syrup blood and make-up and stunt actors, you consciously or subconsciously know it's not real while you watch it. I think it is possible to get burned out on such movies, though. Which I have been for a long time. I'd rather have a compelling STORY and good acting than violence and profanity.

Probably why me (and most GOGers, I think) prefer something like Planescape: Torment over the latest AAA release. Fancy graphics are nice (if you have a rig capable of running it), but plot and story beat graphics any day of the week.

However, the song Filter recorded about it is a great tune.

I agree there.
C) I would sell it to the highest bidder. There are also a couple of people from my youth that I'd be kind enough to let them know about this amazing funny movie. You know, it was hard to be the nerd of the high school >.< I'll make those bullies laugh. (voice gets louder). and I'll laugh with them. For all eternity....(ends with the laugh from the MJ - Triller song)

All of the above is joke :) I was both the nerd and the bully of my high school :P
I'd watch the movie.
F) buy a Superbowl ad.
You all wanna see something disgusting? You all wanna see something you will never be able to un-see, that will haunt you for the rest of your lives?

It's worse than any snuff film, any news footage. It's beyond horrific.

You have been warned

Yeah. I know what you mean. I've never seen the Bud Dwyer vid, nor do I ever mean to. But one of the worst things I ever saw was a documentary called 'Memory of the Camps' about the liberation of the nazi concentration camps near the end of WW2. I was made shortly after the war ended. The film has actual footage of the camps littered with the dead and dying. And of numerous corpses being pushed into mass graves.
It's strange. I've seen recreations of it and stuff like it movies plenty of times. But seeing the real thing, knowing each and everyone of them was a real, thinking, breathing, loving person who was senselessly murdered. It really upset me, I felt unhappy for a few days afterwards. I never want to see it again.
