If a GOG version of a game is uploaded to torrents, it is just the installer and the files. I see no reasons not to buy it on GOG instead of pirating it.
If a Steam only game gets uploaded to torrents, I will quite often prefer the pirated version as it has a ton of added value to me. Removed DRM, very user friendly cracker made installers, portability etc. The only way I add games to my Steam library are either retail games that have to be registered or freebies.
So for me, Steam actually makes me want to pirate more. Funny how that works. It's like with movies. You buy it and you are assaulted with minutes of unskippable anti-piracy ads, warnings in 19 languages about how you can't present this movie on oil rigs and other such BS, while if I torrent the movie, I can actually just watch it and not be scolded for buying the thing.
