Heh, the Xbox 360 is too new for my retro-gaming needs. I've just recently got a PS2 gifted by a friend, so I'm going with that for a while....

snowkatt: the ps3 is 11 years old and still going
9 years old. Released at end of 2006.
That is not dead which can eternal lie.
And with strange aeons even death may die.

So sayeth Cthuhlu who lords over the gaming world and will one day release to us an emulator for Xbox XXX.
Mine still works

Elvis
Disco
Chyna

All dead.

Did I miss someone?
Darth Vader.
Hardly comes as a surprise, considering mine died years ago. :P

snowkatt: so does the ps3 though

and if you are really lucky you have an early ps3 that can play ps2 games too
avatar
Leroux: Ah, the PS3 still supported PS games, but not PS2 games later on? Curious. In any case, I guess that means PS games are the console games with the longest support ever?
the jap and usa launch models had ps2 hardware in them

later models and the european launch models had partial ps 2 hardware and partial software emulation
( the video card was hardware the cpu was emulated )

my ps3 can play ps2 games

ps2 functionality was later cut as a cost cutting measure

and yes the ps1 is the console with the longest support ever from 1994 till now

I'm not running a guess the quote game here :o)
My XB360 started to die shortly before the XB1 feature presenation.

... I replaced it with a shiny new XB360 shortly after the XB1 feature presentation.

Tbh, I use PCSX2 to emulate the PS2. Works fairly well for the most part. Some games aren't at 100% emulation yet, but for the most part, it's a solid way to enjoy some enhanced PS2 play without taking up some extra space in the ol' game room.

muttly13: I admit to being out of the loop on this, but why should I care an ancient system by console standards is dropping out of production. Again, not on top of this but this reads like I should care that GMC stopped making Saturns...
It's just that if you have a nice library of X360 games you need to be sure you have access to a working console. New ones would be more reliable than second hand, I would hope...

I've been in the market for a PS2 some years ago as I'd love to play some PS & PS2 games that I missed (in general I don't like console games, there are some exceptions though) but since I don't have a game room nor a second TV, I bought instead a PSP (2000). Overall it was a worthy purchase, the support for PS games is great, it's great for emulation purposes and there are some nice PSP games too (although I could count them on my fingers because I guess I'm very demanding/ weird).
