Now this is what we’ve all been eagerly waiting for!

Earlier in November, CD PROJEKT RED announced that the free next-gen update for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is coming on December 14th, 2022, and it will be free for everyone who already owns the game.

More details and gameplay was scheduled to be revealed during today’s stream on CDPR’s Twitch Channel at 5 PM UTC, and of course, as is their tradition, the studio also pleasantly surprised us with this awesome new trailer, showing what we can expect in the upcoming update. Hold onto your medallions and take a look!

DD & Ji Ji: Will i be able to download the original game from my account anytime ?
avatar
Breja: I'd like to know that too. Also, the only acceptable answer is "yes". I may like the new stuff, but I may just as well prefer the older version. However it goes, the version I purchased, the product I actually chose to buy, should never leave or be replaced in my library.
These are true words and they should apply to every single game.

avatar
Gersen: It's not like it's a remaster / remake or anything like that, it's just an update with a some of bug fixes / quality of life a couple of extra quest and a lot of extra graphical options. The biggest changes will be for console owners.
avatar
Breja: Apparently it includes "Numerous gameplay and UI enhancements" and "integrated mods". That sounds like it could amount to more than enough changes to significantly impact things. If it's all optional and can be turned on/off in the game itself, that's great. If not, the "vanilla" version should remain available for download. Like I said, on principal the product I purchased should never disappear from my library.
You can at least turn off the gameplay and UI enhancements as you can dee in the stream I linked before - nor word there about the integrated mods. The one thing I am not so sure is if you could turn off HD textures at well since those would require more performance as well.

Great that The Witcher 3 gets an update and that i will get it for free.

The big problem i have with The Witcher is, i struggled to like the combat in part 1 and since part 2 i really dislike the combat so much, i stopped playing half through.

Then, when Witcher 3 GOTY was on sale i bought it thinking i may overcome my dislike for the combat but no - i play a few hours and then i throw it away - i really do not like the combat and i dislike it so much it prevents me from playing.

Yet - i payed some almost 100 hours in Elden Ring and the combat is not an issue for me, why is it then in the Witcher?

The issue is in Elden Ring i can develop a combat style and use a weapon and equipment that i like - in The Witcher i am forced to play the way the devs percive as the right way to play a witcher which is quite limited in every regard and does not fit my likings!

So. sadly with a high probability i will not play The Witcher 3 Next Gen despite it being one of the best RPGs bar the combat.

Such a shame...

Themken: I find the addition of DLSS v 3.0 an odd choice and think v 2.4, or whatever is the latest of the v 2.x, a much more suitable choice for a game like The Witcher 3.

Oh, with added raytracing. Maybe now is the time to buy into raytracing. Let us see what an RTX4080 costs...

<faints at the €2,000 price tag>
Here in Argentina cost the double because taxes, and we earn a quater of an American salary... :') crying in poor
I have asked this on this forum, on the CDPR forums, on their youtube comments, on steam.... many others have also been asking since last week everywhere, but CDPR simply refuses to give us an answer:

WILL THIS UPDATE REPLACE THE ORIGINAL GAME?

Will this next-gen update come as a separate SKU on GOG/Steam whatever, so that we can easily chose if we want this at all? Yes, I have my offline installers backed up, but as it is usually the case, after an update lands, the previous versions of offline installers are gone, so we better hold on to the current version or else that's it.

Major updates for older game have a terrible track record of breaking more than they fix and I like TW3 the way it is.

For me...

... controlling Geralt has always been difficult and a bit unfulfilling... his move-set comes with flourishes and acrobatics that make combat imprecise. From Software's games on-the-other-hand have very tight combat with much more control precision.

But From Software makes action RPGs that come moreso from a fighting game style where The Witcher is a CRPG with some action that comes from a lineage of click-based combat.

Where I disliked The Witcher's combat, somehow I enjoyed Spider's takes on the same general system... Bound by Flame, The Technomancer, and most Greedfall.

If you haven't already, I'd check out Dragon's Dogma Dark Arisen. Great combat system.

Yeah, this update is interesting, but moreso looking forward to the remake. Hoping CDPR vastly reworks combat!

Don't think there's any point specifically adding 2.x any more. It's included in DLSS 3 anyway and is the fallback for 2000/ 3000 series when running DLSS 3 games. Might as well use the latest tech, and nVidia did (do still, presumably) have Witcher 3 as a sponsored title and they'd definitely want it..
How does it compare to the Nintendo Switch version?

That particular version of TW3 has always intrigued me for some reason.
Maybe it's time to buy it, to have the old one before the new one appears with all the doubts already mentioned. Well done CDPR for taking care of your games.
Happy to see the game receive this "TLC" pass, and it certainly entices me to return to the world of The Witcher!

Thank you for sharing the love with the fans - past, present and future! :D
Another reminder that there are just 3 days left for downloading and backing up the offline installers of the original 2015 release or the 2016 GOTY edition, in case something goes awry with the next-gen update.

Bump for visibility.
Looooots of Youtube accounts apparently got early access to this. Videos are flooding the website.
So they released the changelog for this update: https://www.thewitcher.com/en/news/47105/next-gen-update-list-of-changes

One thing I already don't like is some content locked behind Galaxy - aka MY REWARDS strikes again.
