SCPM: It's my understanding that they were mostly a regional distributor. Was there a particular game related to them that you were looking for?
"Jurassic War", but it's far from an important title to try to get.

Searching for info on that actually lead me to http://www.ssg.com.au/ (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Strategic_Studies_Group), and I'm interested in trying to make contact with these guys, perhaps both for their older (not on the site) and newer titles. I sent an email to the forum person (due to spam you have to send an email before you can even register); hopefully he will be able to help me make contact, or will at least approve of my forum name and let me ask my questions there.

Alright, good luck.

Kristian:
GOG had a booth at Quakecon this year. I doubt they would bother sponsoring something like that if they weren't trying to get in bed with Beth.

SCPM: Over the past few days I've sent e-mails to Steve Moretzky inquiring about Legend Entertainment titles' rights, Trevor Sorensen about Supernova Creations' games like the Star Fleet series, Ali Naci Atabek about Mindcraft Games, and Pascal Stradella about Hexplore. Also tried contacting a bunch of companies like Amiga Games Inc, Remedy, id, Interplay, Sega, Tecmo Koei, Zenimax, Throwback Entertainment, and others. Haven't heard back from anyone yet. =/ If I don't hear anything by the end of the month, I'll try contacting them again by different means.
Bravo yet again for your efforts, mate.

I'm in a similar situation with several different companies (including Ali Atabek). It's almost like some people don't want to be found or recognized for what they did back in the day. :-P I'll probably be scaling back my efforts over time, depending on how well the contacting pans out. It's tough to spend 2, 5, 7 minutes crafting an email or message knowing that there's a strong possibility it will be for naught.

I still hope GOG looks over the Abandonia lists I've been working on, because it seems like theoretically there are still a LOT of good old games that may be owned by publishers already on GOG.

More old games GOG could theoretically bring through their current publishers:

Offensive, from Ocean of America, Inc./Ocean Software (Infogrames/Atari)
Oils Well, from Sierra
Omega, from ORIGIN Systems/EA
One Must Fall 2097, from Epic Games (freeware, but a great game it seems;
.....adding to my freeware list to give to GOG)
Oregon Trail, from MECC, published by Brøderbund/The Learning Company/Gameloft
.....(perhaps rights now with Ubisoft?)
OverKill - The Six Planet Mega-Blast, from Epic Games
Pacific General, from SSi/Ubisoft
Panzer General, from SSi/Ubisoft
Paperboy 1 & 2, from Mindscape (perhaps EA or Ubisoft?) (1988 graphics, though)
Pawn, The; from Magnetic Scrolls (Microprose, then Hasbro or Ubisoft? I dunno)
Peppers Adventures in Time, from Sierra
Phantasie III - The Wrath of Nikademus, from SSi (dat CGA)

I agree. they seem to have mostly published games in Germany and only developed a few themselves.
Here is a list ("Entwickler" means developer):
http://www.gamestar.de/spiele/publisher/cdv-software-entertainment/8966.html

CDV Software Entertainment went bankrupt in 2010. I could contact the lawyer in charge of that to see where the rights went but as they would have mostly been publishing rights fro Germany I'm not sure if it's worth it.
Except for, well, *cough* Lula 3D, which was completely developed by them and "Wet - The sexy Empire" which was at least partly developed by them.

That brings to my mind , which was published by [url=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sunflowers_Interactive_Entertainment_Software]Sunflowers, now apparently part of Ubisoft.
Just had a look through this thread, really awesome work guys! It's a lot to go through though so it would be amazing if you could have an overall list of publishers/people and the rights you think they hold and when I have some time I'll compare them to what we've worked out ourselves and look into what we can do. This would make my job a lot easier, looking into rights holders is only one of many things I do at GOG and so I simply don't have the time for all this so the legwork you guys do helps a lot. I really appreciate it.

Also, I saw your message about Wayne Holder having the rights for FTL Games properties and am trying to get in touch. Of course we'd love to have Dungeon Master here so I'm going to do all I can to make it happen!

Please understand though that I don't really know how much I can say about us trying to get in touch with people or working on certain rights so don't be surprised if I'm vague/ non-responsive about some things. Not even sure if I should've said the above about Wayne Holder!
Great job, guys!! Keep this up =)
That looks like an overlooked gem. It was developed by SEK that also developed Wiggles, another gem with not enough commercial success.
I wonder if the rights still lie with the respective publishers...
I found an email address of one of the SEK founders and will write him tonight.
Project Nomads is one I can recommend as appropriate for the GOG catalogue. The graphics and gameplay are still appealing to new players, while the concepts are different enough to make it a stand-out title. It seems to be one of those under-recognised games that GOG is so good at resurrecting. And it encompasses both direct combat and strategic building, with more besides, and those kinds of games seem to find a welcome audience here.

Awesome! It may be that, since you have more sway via an actual distributor, people may actually listen to you, or you may be willing to do a few more things than we are willing to do. (like having LinkedIn mail and such :P) For example, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quantum_Quality_Productions has several games that might have reverted back to Bruce Williams Zaccagnino, despite a buyout from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_Laser_Games . However, I can't seem to get in contact with Bruce. I know he's now running a huge model train show called Northlandz, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Northlandz, and has this website, http://www.northlandz.com/. The website has a phone number, but I'm not terribly comfortable calling it. :P

I'll first list up the games that I believe are owned by current publishers you have onboard already. (games I found on Abandonia, at least)

Yes, I understand. The vagueness is fine, we just appreciate you popping into these threads once in a while to acknowledge that you and/or others are looking them over for clues. :)

Yeah, you're right! http://www.gog.com/game/warlords_battlecry says that SSG developed Warlords, but Ubisoft published them. Maybe othe SSG games were published by Ubisoft!

- I just sent an email concerning Wiggles and ParaWorld to the SEK founder Carsten Orthbandt.

- I got an answer from Computec (I asked them about Dragonflight, Amberstar and possible other Thalion titles) saying that the guy in charge of answering my mail is on holidays until 7th of September and therefore an answer might be slow in coming.
No reaction yet from the webmaster of the Thalion fansite who I also contacted. (Computec might be a dead end if they only had a one off license, so it might be good to get more information.)

- No reaction from Epic to my facebook message concerning Jill of the Jungle: The Complete Trilogy. I will see about another way of contacting them.

- I'm still unsure what to do about Fate - Gates of Dawn as most people involved in that project seem to be dead and I'm not sure about the DOS port. :-(

- Concerning Project Nomads: The developer Radon Labs was taken over by Bigpoint and then integrated into Bigpoint's Berlin office. I'm still looking for a way to contact the Berlin office directly by email.
This is the guy I would like to contact if possible.

Glad to hear it. The game page I linked mentions that it was published by CDV Software Entertainment AG, who was mentioned in this thread earlier as a potential contact for a number of titles. So if anyone manages to ascertain their status, they might be a lead for this as well.

You all have some amazing sleuthing skills combined with lots of patience. Keep up the good work!
