Here's a new indie game in development that looks pretty neat. It's a real-time, card-based RPG sort of game with an interesting stained glass aesthetic. It's currently greenlit on Steam, no word on a GOG release but I'm not sure if it would get accepted, anyway.

There's some screenshots. video and a playable demo on their website. I played through the demo, combat seems a little tedious, but when I got the hang of it, it was pretty fun.

As soon as you said this, I had wonderful images of what I thought it could look like. I'm surprised more games don't try and use this approach as I'm sure a talented designer / artist could come up with some fantastic stuff.

I remember a game that used a similar style in a few cutscenes but for the life of me can't recall which one. I vaguely think it could have been an RPG, and that the movement of the scenes was sort of "paper doll" like (as opposed to fluid animation). Grr that's going to drive me nuts ;)
