What is Piñata Madness?
For $3, you can buy and smash your own digital Piñata, each holding one of 100+ mystery games worth anywhere from $5.99 all the way up to $44.99.
Visit your <span class="bold">Pinata hub</span>, where can buy, open, and see everything Piñata Madness!
Just like real-life Piñatas, they'll bring you joy, surprise, and reward. Unlike real-life Piñatas, ours drop really good games instead of candy – games like Pillars of Eternity, Shadow Warrior 2, Heroes of Might and Magic, Victor Vran, and more!
It's a great way to broaden your horizons and try out games you otherwise wouldn't, knowing you're always getting a deal that's worth it. And if you already own every game included in our Piñatas, each game you drop will be a giftable code so you share the joy with your friends.

Weekly Megasale
If you'd rather know exactly you're getting, check out the Weekly Megasale featuring great deals up to -90% on some of our favorite titles including Darkest Dungeon, Shadowrun: Hong Kong, Heroes of Might and Magic III, and more!

The Piñata Madness and Weekly Megasale last until August 21, 2017, 9:59 PM UTC.
To all who can't see their Piñatas - we're currently experiencing issues with showing bought Piñatas on selected browsers - Safari, Opera and in GOG Galaxy. We're working on a fix, until then please use other browsers to open your Piñatas.

Hey all, just wanted to drop by in this thread to address some of the issues you are experiencing, and let you know we're not leaving you alone with them!

As of right now, there should be no issues with Piñatas not showing in the Piñata Hub if your order went through. If you still don't see any Piñatas in the hub, please reach out to our support.

If you received duplicates of games while there are still games you don't own in the pool, please reach out to our support, we will refund the duplicates for you.

As for getting games in the Piñatas that are cheaper on the current sale - this is an issue mainly with local prices, and we're sorry for that. I don't have a solution for this right now, but I just wanted to let you know we'll deal with it so everyone who was affected by this should be content. Will definitely get back on this subject in the next days when we're back in the office.

If a game you found in the Piñata doesn't work for you, and we cannot fix it for you, you're eligible for our 30 days Money Back Guarantee, so feel free to contact our support.

Also, thank you for all your feedback regarding the mechanics, i.e. offering gift codes instead of allocating game to you library or being able to choose OS for the games you want in Piñatas. We'll discuss these options for next Piñatas.

Hope that covers most of the topics in this thread. If there's anything else you'd like to ask about Piñatas, just let me know!

Robette: What about the unequal distribution of games available in the pinatas? I guess the description in the FAQ is somewhat intentionally left vague stating that you get a game from the pool "at the time", but honestly I think that is very missleading. The advertisement for the Pinata stats that you can get great "gems" like such and such, but then it turns out most of these games are not even available anymore on day 2 without any indication of this being the case for possible buyers.

I bought two more Pinatas today which I wouldn't have bought if I would have known that in advance.

EDIT: Currently the FAQ litterally states:

"each holding one of 100+ mystery games"

and

"Unlike real-life Piñatas, ours drop really good games instead of candy – games like Pillars of Eternity, Shadow Warrior 2, Heroes of Might and Magic 5, Victor Vran, Saints Row 4 and more!"

There basically is a missing fineprint that would say *games might not actually be included, conditions and such and such may apply. In fact, the first statement is outright wrong when each Pinata holds just one of 40+ (?) mystery games.
I can confirm that all games in the Piñata pool will be available during the whole period of the sale - we're distributing all available games in Piñatas throughout the whole week so it doesn't matter if you come the first day or the last.

Oddeus: Looks like this will be the first sale where I won´t buy a single game :( There are maybe four games I´m interested in. It´s not worth buying random stuff and crowding my library for a minimal chance to get a specific game.
You know there is a separate sale running alongside the Pinatas? Just check the main page

Hey all, as promised I’m back with some explanation and a solution for all who received a game in a Piñata, that was cheaper than a Piñata itself in certain regions due to local pricing.

First things first, to fix the situation for all future purchases, we’re removing from Piñatas the games that in some regions are available cheaper in the sale This means you won’t be getting those games popping out from Piñatas any more - feel free to buy them in the sale that is running alongside Piñata Madness. Since not everything can be fixed that way, we’re removing a few games from the sale.

Because the removal of games from Piñatas will decrease the overall pool of titles available to get from Piñata, we’re right now adding new games to the selection, and we’ll be adding more in the coming days, to cover the excluded ones. Those new additions are not available on sale, and their base price is at least $5.99 USD.

Last but not least, if you were affected by this issue, we have a solution for you. First, you are eligible to get a refund for such purchase (or refunds if you received multiple games that were cheaper than a Piñata) - just reach out to our support and ask for a refund which will be done as GOG Wallet funds. To make up for the trouble, we’re also going to give you a code for one free Piñata. The code will be provided to you by our support, and will need to be redeemed before the end of the Piñata Madness sale.

Once again, sorry for all the trouble and we hope this will address most, if not all of your concerns regarding this situation.

EDIT: small edit after Lemon_Curry's post :)

SpiderFighter: That really should have been the case for all Piñata games. Still, it's good to see GOG trying to do the right thing. Good looking out.
Well, if a game is on sale but costs more than $3 and you get it in Piñata, then it's a win.
avatar
nooffence: Thanks a lot for such solution!

There was an issue with missing notification when buying one Piñata with duplicate, is it fixed already? Don't want to bother support with refunds anymore trying to catch fresh games in pool.
This should be fixed by now. But IF you end up with a duplicate, please reach out to our support for a refund - it will be done quickly.
avatar
elcook: Since not everything can be fixed that way, we’re removing a few games from the sale.
avatar
eiii: Does that mean you are going to remove games from the regular sale, not only from the Piñata pool?

If you really do so would you please announce these games before you remove them from sale and give people enough time to buy them which do not like your gambling madness?
Yes, we removed them from the sale already, as we needed to act fast. These were just a few titles

Croyzers: Are you able to confirm that if a person has got a game from this Pinata sale, and not downloaded or touched it, they they are entitled to a full refund of the price of the Pinata?
Yes, if you haven't downloaded the game you can reach out to our support for a refund.

Kristian: So now I again own all the piñata games. I bought some more piñatas, I think all the games I got were from the Blue Moon Red Owl catalog. In any case I now all the games of that publisher.

elcook, hopefully you didn't miss my questions here(although I just experimentally discvored that the answer to the first question was yes): https://www.gog.com/forum/general/the_pinata_madness_sale_starts_now_98cd1/post386
It's not about running out of keys, it was a bug on our side that limited the pool of available games. This should be fixed by now, and with even more games added within the next days, this should not happen. If it does, please submit the issue to our support and they will refund your purchase.
avatar
elcid_portal: I was wondering if there was a bug or something, preventing the third pinata I bought some days ago to get aknowledged bei GOG Galaxy... After several hours I got two of them but the third is still missing. Should I ask support or just wait some more hours/days?
If it's already more than 24 hours since your purchase, please contact our support.

drd7of14: Hey elcook,

I was wondering what titles were included in the refund for being valued under the $3 on sale, at time of pinata purchase. I have a few games, but I didn't know if any of them were included, since the sales prices have since been adjusted.

I do remember having at least 1 that was under $3, and then a bunch others that were $2.99.
If you're in the US you shouldn't be affected by this issue - it was for regional pricing in different regions.
avatar
DeadFishEye: There is a possibility for thematic piñatas? For example, piñatas which only "contain" games of the same genre?
We'll definitely think about adjusting next Pinatas, and maybe adding genres or themes, etc. Thanks for the feedback.
avatar
elcook: Yes, if you haven't downloaded the game you can reach out to our support for a refund.

MarkoH01: Which is the case for EVERY game purchased on GOG according to GOG's own TOC.
That's correct, but not all users are aware of it, that's why I wanted to confirm it here.

Chri83: Getting duplicate games should no longer be possible because it was a bug and should be fixed.
avatar
thespacebear: I'm still getting duplicates (with no checkout warning message) as of 15 minutes ago. :(
avatar
Kristian: I got a game I already own, without warning, a moment ago.
Looked into your issue - both of you have loads of GOG games, congrats!
Apparently our system didn't work for you, and didn't inform you that the next purchase will be a gift code because you own everything in Pinatas for the moment (we'll be adding even more games later today and on Friday). Did you buy Pinatas one-by-one or in bulks?

Still waiting for an official reply .
Sorry I missed it. We won't be adding any games to the sale this week - we're adding more game to Pinatas, so sorry about it.
I cannot directly say what are the plans for next sales on GOG, but you might actually be onto something - be sure to check our upcoming sales ;)
avatar
mchack: try buying the pinatas one by one (wallet is great for that) and look at the banner each time before buying: see screenshot
avatar
thespacebear: I was trying that earlier in the week, but I've gotten full blocks of duplicates and not seen that message. I expect buying a block could result in some duplicates, since I'd guess they're checking for number of games in available pool and not in user library > 0, not > number of piñatas in user's cart. But I should never see entire orders of duplicates (whether one or more) and not see that message if things were working right.

But, it sounds like there was an additional glitch affecting people with "large" libraries. I'm now seeing that message, so I guess it got fixed. Hurray, thank you!
Yep, it was affecting users with a whole lot of games in their libraries, and should be fixed now. Thanks for all the support and sorry for trouble!
