Why would you render the codes obsolete/used if something goes wrong during the payment process?!

I agree with you. I never received the Tropico series newsletter that was sent out a few days ago. I used another forum member's code to take advantage of the Tropico 6 discounts. For that reason alone, I have to oppose GOG using the newsletter discount codes idea.

Yes, I owned all five with dlc and Tropico 6 was on my wishlist.

I had some of them on my wishlist, but zero owned, and received the letter ...... However only the Tropico Reloaded discount was worth it imo.

Yeah, it's a little annoying. Just apply the discount to any accounts that are subscribed to the newsletter. Send them a newsletter to notify them of the discount. Done.

It's obvious why they do this, It's marketing. You're left in limbo at a screen telling you "now or never" to make your purchase at a discount. Hopefully, the reptile part of your brain impulsively kicks in and clicks 'buy now'. But I did think GOG.com was above these sort of mind tricks. :/

I digress though. The self-destructing aspect of the codes is crummy. The discounts are already time-limited so there's little point in taking that avenue of hesitation away from people.

When they sent me the discount code for Dying light I bit the bullet because its price was lower than ever and I was eyeballing the game for some time.
Literally the day after that they put the game on sale with a higher discount than the one I was given.

Feel free to laugh at me.

Bah, Isthereanydeal is still a much better option then any of the newsletter stuff. At least, they won't ever be tied to check-out issues, The majority of games will tend to go on a good sale at some point. It's a matter of waiting it out.

I have no problem with the offers but have yet to see a great price on a great (IMHO) game.

Pillars of Eternity Definitive Edition almost got me to buy -- even though I've had a free version of the base game from Twitch Prime I've never been compelled to begin.

I do regret not buying Pathfinder Kingmaker on the newsletter offer, but although the price was good, I wanted a deal on the "complete" game (like the POE deal). That is probably the only offer I still kinda wish I'd taken.

But I'm probably the worst person to talk about sales. I almost never buy anything without exhaustive research and hate being rushed to complete a sale. I may have a game "addiction," but family expenses come first. ;)
