Hey dear Gogies,

i am writing here so hopefully we could solve the mystery of a game.

When i was a lot younger i got a cd of the above mentioned game without the box. No idea form where, but the cd looked like a official release ( painted in red with 'Soldier' on it). That was around year 2002 i think.

A three or four years ago i digged up the cd, installed the game and it was working fine. However, that made me curious who had developed the game, when was it released and if i can find a digital released somewhere, because the cd rom i have is almost dead. To my surprise there was no information what so ever about the game online. Nothing!!!!! I even couldn't pirate it.

Yesterday i decided to make a google search again (dont know why :D) and i got lucky. Someone had uploaded some gameplay of the game on youtube ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BX2VNtZvn6U ). Going through the comments on the video, someone said that on the wiki's page of the games sound designer ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jesper_Kyd ), the game is listed as unreleased. What?!?! But i have a officially released looking cd at home. How could a such a copy of officially unreleased game could find its way to eastern european country (Bulgaria) in the early 2000's.

Thankfully one of the people from the youtube comments shared the game files with me and the game is working with very little tinkering on win 10.

So back to my request. Do you people have any information on this game. Development history. Was it released officially or not?!?! Did you play it at some point in your life? Does the game have something to do with the movie with the same name ( https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0120157/) ? I will be thankful forever for any information provided.

Wishlist entry for the game: https://www.gog.com/wishlist/games/soldier_2000

Wild guess: The game got shot down by Warner Bros. because the developers didn't bother to acquire the rights?

Of course, it seems strange that all you can find about the game is one video on YT and a mention on Jesper Kyd's wiki page.

Btw: Jesper Kyd would probably the best to contact, if you want some more details about who developed the game, and why it wasn't released.

If he worked with the devs, he should know (and be able to remember) who was responsible, respectively, who he had contact with at the time.

Good luck.

A wild guess: it is an unofficial, bootleg, copy of the game that some Eastern European maffia organization released and sold anyway. That is nothing new, you have always been able to buy very legit looking bootleg movies and games on various eastern and Asian countries.

Well, aren't there any credits on your CD?
Usually you get bombarded with splashscreens of the different companies and programs that were involved in the making of a game.
Is that not the case with your CD?

Its is only the cd , without the box. Still ingame there are credits. Hoped that there are other people who played the game as well.

Makes sense. You can never know.

Erm, well but then you already know who has developed it, no?
Mind to share this information?
Judging by the video its an early in house demo / early demo for conventions and the likes. It does indeed appear to be based upon the film.

the intro videos are not working. Dont know if its a windows 10 problem or the intro videos are not included at all in the version i have or the version given me by one of the guys who commented under the youtube video. However, the intro videos do appear in the youtube video itself and 'Sinister Games' are the developers i think. They do appear in the ingame credits too. It is possible for me to share a google drive link with the game, not sure if it is ok to do so.

Ah, ok,...I scrolled through the beginning of the video to get to the game play, so I didn't see the intro. :)

Edit: In April 2000 the studio was acquired by Ubi Soft Entertainment Software.
This may be the reason why the game got canned.

Awesome! Thanks you. So Ubi Soft acquired them. Good to know. Probably timppu is right and some eastern european shady organizations decided to release the not finished game. As a result, i got legit looking cd. We can never know.

So probably no way of the game getting digital release nowadays, since it was never officially released in the first place.

I'd say its equally as likely that you have an actual internal release disc.

Could be. Its still a mystery how internal released dusc of a Us based developer found itself somewhere in eastern europe. I myself dont have a clue who gave it to me.
Cheers for bringing this to attention.
And thanks to the whoever made this available in the first place, unofficial or not. If it weren't for them we would never get to experience at least some of these obscure or unreleased titles like this or Lord of the Clans 4-5 years ago.

Check the comments on the linked video above for a mediafire link, if you want to check it out yourself. Probably won't take long before it gets nuked.
