The Mandate, a single player/Co-op Sci-fi RPG, is on Kickstarter and ends on Dec 2nd. They are saying it will be DRM-Free however the Kickstarter page only mentions Steam and that they are looking to bring it to GOG. Also, looks like they will have DLC. They only need $100K more to reach their goal. Check KS link for more.
Angry Joe Pledges to The Mandate!
Discovered it yesterday thanks to Torment and now I am highly considering pledge.
I need to do more research before I jump the boat, though.
Thanks for AJ link, Pheace.
I am really considering pledging as well. With all the other Kickstarters I have contributed to it is hard to break out that credit card for this one. But it looks to be a really nice concept and a game I would enjoy playing.
The negatives for me are that they have not committed releasing the game here on GOG and the DLC. I can live with the DLC, but if it's not available here then forget it.

Feels really awesome, conceptually. So ambitious, in fact, that it can only disappoint when it comes out. But what the heck, if they manage to get even half the features they're promising in a somewhat decent way, it's still going to be great. I'd be ok with FTL with modern graphics and a calmed sandbox exploration, and anything else on top of it is a bonus. And that destruction demo with the lasers looks pretty damn cool, specially the shield.
Check out their for more screenshots and videos. Also, they have a text adventure out, Scourge of the Mandate. At work, so I can not try it out myself.
That looks really freakin' awesome! If I had money, I would totally make a (first ever) pledge.
Thanks for sharing.

I was thinking just about the exact same thing. If this ends up being a disappointment, it looks like it would end up being a really fun game anyways.

Also thanks to Torment here, I now have this Kickstarter page open in a tab. Considering tossing some money at it, but I'll have to do some more research on it as well. If they pull off what they're saying that want to it will be awesome though.
The background/audio_theme/visual are really impressive for such an early stage. Thanks for having made a thread about it, the Numenera update didn't make me want to know more about it initially.
I am not too thrilled about how they seem to emphasis the co-op playing with up to 6 players.
That's not something I am interested in and it holds me back from backing. Well, still 9 more days to decide and it wouldn't be first time I backed at the last moment.
Also, so far they are only looking into GOG release. That would help my decision if it was decided already. Still it's positive they are at least considering it. :-)
Looks interesting but from the KS video I couldn't make up how the game would play, I'm guessing a bit of Nexus shipcombat mixed with Evil Genius base/shipbuilding and crew management.
Either way I've overstretched myself lately with too many KS and other future projects that I will sit this one out and maybe buy it when it is released.

That's the issue i have with this KS. Several other devs deliberately wont say DRM free for some weird (quite unfair)
Looks like the ball is with gog

Will there be DRM on the final purchase?

The Fairness Directive states that in The Mandate, DRM is outlawed! You pledge on Kickstarter because you want to support and play the game. It is therefore senseless to harm your experience by adding cumbersome DRM. You’ll require a game-key, and there will be the standard Steam services DRM. In addition we have contacted GoG.com and expect to distribute The Mandate via them at release. Since GoG.com only supports Windows and Mac, for Linux users that want a non-DRM option we plan to offer The Mandate via the Humble Store

Backed & hope to get from gog.

Not much love for this game around here, huh?!

I'm also considering slacker backing this. Not decided yet, but it does look good. Only the strategic battles worry me a bit.

Looks ok now if indeed GOG will be supplying the drm free side of things (wasnt the info rather vague previously to that update?)
$20 for base tier with game AND soundtrack is quite unusual if it turns out to be a good game.Im still also wondering whether to slacker backer Satellite reign as well haha

Actually this part bothers me

"No, it isn’t an MMO in any sense – it is a 6 player cooperative experience which is created with coop in mind, but also for single player audiences. It has drop-in drop-out multiplayer, and there will be social elements (nothing to do with Facebook, etc), but it is not a ‘massively multiplayer online’ game."

So its going to be more of a co op game??

"How does the coop work? Is this a primarily cooperative or single player experience?

It's true that The Mandate is cooperative with up to six players, and there will certainly be mechanics and aspects of the game that complement cooperative gameplay, rewarding those who choose to play this way (tactical specifications, variations on the trinity system, etc), but The Mandate is designed so that each captain decides his very own fate, and enjoys his very own story path. You needn't play with friends, or seldom play with them, it's entirely up to you. There's one thing we need to make very clear, and that is that The Mandate is being created with enough depth and drive to immerse players creative and strategic minds. Many cooperative games distract players from this side, but that's not what we're trying to do. You are your own captain, join your friends, or journey alone - mix, match, whatever you like. It's your sandbox."

Hmmmm not sure how this is going to work out if someone wants a single player experience...
